We currently seek a Rehabilitation Aide to, under the supervision and guidance of a Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Speech Pathologist or Physical Therapy Assistant, work closely with and assist patients during their rehabilitation. Duties include transporting and instructing patients in performing simple rehabilitative tasks, preparing work areas, and other tasks as directed.

In addition, you will:

  • Ensure patient care responsibilities are delivered with a knowledge of patient growth and development and are appropriate to the ages of the patients served.
  • Assist patients in ambulation (including proper gait techniques), selection and measurement of appropriate assistive device, and in offering the proper amount of assistance to the patient.
  • Assist patients in movement utilizing appropriate assist device and correct techniques.
  • Assist therapists in all treatments deemed necessary, including: measuring for and instructing patients in the proper use of crutches; assisting patients in exercise programs; and performing passive range of motion treatment on patients.
  • Schedule patients and compile daily statistics with the assistance of the Physical Therapists.
  • Prepare treatment area and equipment (eg. assure area is clean, put linen on treatment plinth; make sure adequate supplies and proper equipment are on hand). Returns equipment to proper place when not in use.
  • Guide patients onto the treatment table/mat, assist patients in dressing and positioning and draping of patients; Help patients to the bathroom as necessary.
  • Notify primary nurse when leaving the rehabilitation area with a patient; Transport patients to and from the gymnasium and check the daily schedule for discharges.
  • Clean mats daily, wheelchairs weekly, hot pack machines monthly, and walkers and other equipment periodically, including changing the linen on mats and plinths between uses; Order, stack, and maintain linen supply from laundry.
  • Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

We require:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • 6 months' experience in rehabilitation or as a hospital aide or orderly preferred
  • Bilingual (Spanish, Cantonese/Mandarin, Russian, Hebrew, Arabic) preferred
