INEOS KOH is a leading producer of potassium-based chemicals in North America and a strategically located producer of chlorine. It safely and efficiently produces these by the membrane process: KCl salt is electrolytically converted to KOH and Cl2 by the application of electricity in INEOS membrane electrolyzers. The site employs about 100 people mostly located at the site in Ashtabula, Ohio while some leadership & support functions are based out of the INEOS Enterprises office in Columbus, Ohio.

The Reliability Engineer works closely with peers in Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and SHE to ensure safe, reliable, efficient, and effective operations of the plant.

The jobholder is expected to plan and deliver the mechanical and civil engineering activities for rotating equipment for the Ashtabula Site to ensure that both external legal requirements and internal INEOS Enterprises standards are adhered to and that the current and future targets for asset condition and reliability are achieved.

Drive SHE Excellence

Promote the 20 principles of process and behavioral safety and adhere to life-saving rules

Perform as the INEOS KOH Reliability Engineer to ensure rotating assets have the appropriate engineering controls to operate within their operating envelopes.

  • Report incidents, near misses, and hazard identifications, and lead investigations onsite with appropriate conclusions and sustainable actions.
  • Ensure workplace practices are in conformity with established guidelines (IGGN).
  • Performance Indicators – TRIR, AsCare Score, 10P Audit Score (areas related to role)

    Rotating Equipment Technical Leader:

  • Provide rotating equipment guidance on the selection, fabrication, maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, turnaround support, failure analysis, and risk evaluation in accordance with INEOS and Industry codes, guidance, and standards.
  • Develop short term engineering solutions for rotating for extending equipment life and ensuring reliability
  • Ensure there is complete and accurate rotating equipment repair documentation.

    Develop rotating equipment datasheets, specifications, material requisitions and support technical bid evaluations and ITP development

    Identifies any requirement for, and coordinates use of, third party rotating equipment expertise at this site.

    Ensures that rotating equipment related SHE incidents, shared learnings, root causes analyses, and technical best practices are understood and addressed.

    Performance Indicators – Number of temporary repairs, operating envelope excursion counts, Project on-time delivery

    Management of the Rotating Equipment/Vibration Monitoring Program:

    Responsible for overseeing and directing the rotating equipment/vibration monitoring program, equipment troubleshooting, reviewing rotating equipment recommendations and setting priorities for completion of recommendations.

    Define and implement asset maintenance programs and procedures to maintain or improve asset condition and performance as well as develop plans to improve equipment reliability for rotating equipment.

    Evaluate and implement inspection findings to continuously improve maintenance of rotating equipment assets.

    Work with the operations and maintenance teams to fully understand breakdown issues and to support development of equipment-specific policies and design changes to improve reliability of rotating equipment assets.

    Performance indicators: Number of overdue rotating equipment inspections, number of overdue inspection recommendations.

    Level of education and Experience in general

    • B.S. degree in mechanical engineering or other engineering discipline.
    • 5 years manufacturing experience preferred, ideally in a chemical manufacturing plant.

    3 years of experience in a related reliability role preferred.

    Technical skills

    • Knowledge of and experience with rotating equipment including centrifugal pumps, positive displacement pumps, vacuum pumps, gearboxes, mechanical seals, centrifugal fans and blowers, and vibrational analysis.
    • Knowledge of the key factors contributing to damage in rotating equipment and the ability to use this knowledge to select suitable inspection methods, identify causes of failure, and recommend preventative measures.
    • Knowledge of process safety management and ISO systems
    • Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Knowledge of approaches, tools and techniques for anticipating, recognizing and resolving technical (mechanical, electrical, systems or operational) problems
    • Knowledge of methodology and technologies to administer a plant reliability program.
