Applications will be accepted through December 19, 2024 - Apply on-line at www.wfec.comSUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Shift Supervisor, the Relief Control Room Operator is responsible for operating the power generating plant, including boilers, turbines, generators, and related equipment from the control room to ensure reliable and safe operation. Incumbent also coordinates control room actions with the Shift Supervisor, Auxiliary Operator and WFEC System Operators. Incumbent is called upon to fill in on various shifts including Auxiliary Operator duties as required due to absences or work schedule changes.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following; other duties may be assigned. Controls operation of power generation units as directed by the Shift Supervisor. Coordinates operation of auxiliary equipment with Auxiliary Operator. Monitors plant operations and knows the difference between normal operation, abnormal operation, and safe limits for all equipment. Corrects abnormal operating conditions. Keeps Shift Supervisor informed of all abnormal plant conditions. Keeps plant logs and records as directed. Makes entries in plant logs and submits Maintenance Requests for all significant problems. Trains other plant personnel in operation of the power plant. Monitors alarms and takes appropriate action to correct problems to safeguard equipment and personnel. Notifies Shift Supervisor and/or Auxiliary Operator as appropriate. Acts as a communication liaison with WFEC System Operators, other WFEC plants, Shift Supervisor, Auxiliary Operator, and the community. The requirements listed below are representative of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors required. Education and Experience: An Associate's degree in a related field and a minimum of three (3) years' experience in power plant operations. Each additional two (2) years of directly related experience may be substituted for one (1) year of education. Knowledge of the principles of power plant operation, including the steam water cycle, basic electricity, hydraulics, and fluid and gas properties is also required.Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to other employees.Math Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.Computer Skills: Ability to use a personal computer to access the intranet and Microsoft Office software as required.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: A current driver's license is required.WORK SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS: Incumbent works a rotating shift schedule; relief shift schedule or irregular schedule as required and may be required to work overtime and on short notice. May also be required to travel on short notice.
