Position SummaryAs a team member of the rental department, you are responsible for helping guests with ski and snowboard equipment set-ups and boot fitting. You will need to have a basic understanding of ski and snowboard equipment, a passion for guest service and safety, and the ability to ensure every guest has their rental ski or snowboard set up accurately every time. The ability to communicate with guests about other products the mountain offers such as ski and ride school lessons is also important. In addition, it will be your job to relay to guests the best chair lifts to ride on the mountain for their skill level. Rental staff work indoors mostly but will be required to work outside on occasion to assist with shoveling and moving ski racks. Rental staff must come to work prepared to be guest facing daily. You may be required to stand for up to 8 hours per shift. You also may be scheduled at either Sunrise or West Village on any given day.
Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities- Have competent product knowledge of rental equipment as well as ski and ride lessons.
- Understand all procedures for point of sale system.
- Practice safe operating procedures while using all equipment, tools and machines.
- Set up guests with rental equipment accurately and safely every time.
- Properly scan out all equipment to guests for every rental transaction.
- Ensure all gear is checked back in correctly during our return process.
- Make sure every guest has their foot measured for proper fitting of ski and snowboard boots.
- Assist guests in putting our rental ski or snowboard boots on at our fitting stations.
- This is an indoor/outdoor job that requires long periods of exposure to the elements as well as prolonged periods of standing reaching and bending.
- Must obtain excellent knowledge of the mountain; including but not limited to: lodges, lifts, terrain and operating schedules.
- Keep work area clean and organized.
- Assist with ski binding testing as needed.
- Help with snowboard binding repair.
- Must be able to self-manage and support co-workers with teamwork on daily projects such as gear waxing.
- Aid valet specialist in ensuring all overnight storage and valet guests are helped as needed.
- Must obtain ski binding certification from Amer Sports after training.
- Lend assistance to tune shop staff if requested with basic waxing tasks.
- Other tasks as assigned.
Guest Service and Sales - Greet guests warmly and start dialogue.
- Be familiar with goods and services of the mountain that enable you to direct and assist guests with choices.
- Listen to and take care of guest under tight time constraints; determine needs of guests and provide service so that they do not feel neglected.
- Have competent product knowledge of all categories.
- Actively pursue opportunities for sales (performance rental equipment, lesson products, damage insurance, helmets, multiday products).
- Complete follow through of transaction by directing guests to next station
- Use excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Take initiative to support Mt. Bachelor guest service and safety huddle programs.
- Ability to find the correct answer for guests if you're unsure.
Cashiering - Check guests passes to make sure rentals have been paid for and all waivers are signed.
- Determine proper rental package .
- Input skier rental information into POS as needed.
- Input sales to POS.
- Understand all procedures for POS sales.
- Cash drawer accountability and accuracy.
Product Knowledge/Expertise - Alpine rental skis (basic, performance, and high performance), ski boots.
- Snowboards (LTR, all mountain and performance) boots and bindings.
- Adult and youth group Lessons.
- Lift ticket products.
- Helmet only rentals.
Boot Fitting Skills and Techniques - Foot analysis and problem diagnosis.
- Maintain organization in boot area.
Equipment Check Out - Ensure guests properly fill out rental forms and signs releases.
- Adjust and torque test bindings to manufactures recommendations, document settings, sign forms.
- Explain use of equipment, release of liability, potential for loss or damage of equipment.
Equipment Maintenance - Inspect equipment upon rental return.
- Practice safe operating procedures while using all tools and machines.
- Set aside and label equipment that is in need of tune, repair & wax, etc.
Closing Procedures - Ensure that all equipment is returned.
- Follow procedures for closing POS (client close).
- Organize and restock work stations as needed.
- Clean and organize work area.
Safety and Security - Follow all ski binding ASTM standards.
- Report any unsafe conditions to management.
- Follow correct protocol with accident reports for guest injuries.
- Know how to contact Ski Patrol and know location of mountain medical stations.
- Utilize personal protective equipment as required.
- Know location of MSDS book and fire extinguisher.
Secondary Function Assist other stations in Rental shop. Assist in snow removal (shoveling) of Rental shop's designated areas. Assist in day/overnight storage of ski equipment/ and or weekend and holiday outside ski check attending. Assist in moving ski racks onto the snow in the morning and replacing at the end of day. Assist in housekeeping of work areas - clean and vacuum as needed. Assist with other duties as assigned.
Job ScopeMtBachelor Rental Shop is the largest in the Central Oregon. The team works together in a very fast paced atmosphere. Our staff is required to be knowledgeable and professional. It is imperative that our staff is passionate about the sport and willing to use their knowledge to assist our guests in selecting the products (rentals, lessons, lift tickets) that best fit their needs.

Education/Related Experience- Minimum education required: High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum time in related position:1 year in customer service, retail, hospitality or related customer service experience.
Current Hiring Rate: $16.50/hour
