Join Howard University and thrive with us! BASIC FUNCTION: Under general supervision, the incumbent will develop algorithms for medical imaging analysis using machine learning techniques. The incumbent will plan, conduct, and report original research for imaging projects of varying complexity and responsibility, providing assistance with computer software to students, faculty, and staff.
SUPERVISORYACCOUNTABILITY: Candidate will need to supervise student interns or research assistants for conducting projects.
NATURE AND SCOPE:Internal contacts include department head/chair, faculty, staff, researchers and students at the College and school levels. External contacts include collaborators, research scientists and students.
PRINCIPALACCOUNTABILITIES: Conduct research in the fields of pattern/image recognition for MRI, MRS and histological data using machine learning technique and algorithm.Coordinate research performed in the in vivo imaging module of the molecular imaging laboratory and will provide expertise in imaging methods and experimental design of small animal imaging studies.Organize training sessions and workshops for researchers interested in using the MRI, optical imaging and PET/CT/SPECT systems.Participates in academic, didactic, and professional training provided through seminars, workshops and direct meetings with grant faculty.Coordinates and assure development of pertinent reports and their timely delivery.Conducts data collection, statistical analysis, and data interpretation responsibilities related to the Molecular Imaging Laboratory grant portfolio.Participates in grant writing, development of manuscripts and reports, and conduct of primary and secondary data analyses.Performs other related duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time by the Lab Director, and/or Center Director especially those related to research training, mentoring, and interdisciplinary projects.Performs other related duties as assigned.
CORE COMPETENCIES: Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills.Demonstrated computing experience and knowledge in programming languages, including Python, R and/or Matlab. Sophisticated in machine learning packages such as Tensor Flow, Keras and/or PyTorch.Competence in both oral and written English and ability to articulate concisely and in a professional manner.Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented interdisciplinary healthcare environment.
MINIMUMREQUIREMENTS: The candidate should have a MS degree in computer science, radiology or biomedical engineering, demonstrated experience in developing machine learning technique and an ability for independent research.Interest in developing machine learning algorithm for pattern recognition of medical images is required, as well as the desire to collaborate with colleagues in various imaging and other diverse scientific disciplines.Possess excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, and stellar communication skills with fluency in both spoken and written English.
