Advocates for Human Potential ( AHP ) has an immediate opening for a Research Assistant I to join our team of leading researchers in behavioral health studies. Ideally we are seeking someone who resides in the Central Time Zone.AHPAHP (www.ahpnet.com) is a fast-growing consulting and research firm specializing in health and behavioral health, offering technical assistance and training, system and program development, resource development and dissemination, and research and evaluation. Our core content areas include mental health policy and services, substance abuse treatment and prevention, co-occurring disorders, workforce development, homelessness and housing, and criminal justice.ResponsibilitiesThis Research Assistant position will work primarily across projects, conducting a range of field operations, data collection and management, and administrative functions. Specific responsibilities are listed below.
- Assist in data collection development with REDCap, including writing report logic, calculating fields, and implementing creative solutions to complex survey issues.
- Assist in backend coding and data processing using coding languages such as R.
- Assist in collecting and managing longitudinal data.
- Participate in data collection, data entry, and data quality/integrity tasks.
- Meet regularly with the project team to discuss interviewing, data collection, and quality, and any difficulties.
- Act as a liaison between the evaluation and program staff regarding data collection, submission, and all related questions.
- Contribute to literature reviews, reports, and other written work products.
- Assist with proposal writing and submissions.
- Assist on projects independently and collaboratively in team environments.
- Occasional travel may be required.
Qualifications
- Required
- A Bachelor's degree in public health, social work, sociology or other related field, and previous experience with field studies in behavioral health (e.g., internship) are strongly preferred.
- Experience with REDCap (or another data collection software, such as Qualtrics).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.

- Experience with backend survey development within a data collection software (e.g., REDCap, Qualtrics, etc.) is preferred.
- Experience conducting interviews and other data collection activities, including Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) data is a plus.
- Experience working directly with individuals who are currently or have experienced life challenges such as homelessness, substance misuse, mental health problems, and/or child welfare involvement.
- Experience working or volunteering in direct service settings, non-profit agencies, or publicly-funded treatment programs, such as homeless shelters, outreach programs, community-based mental health centers, etc.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to perform duties that require close attention to detail.
- Ability to quickly establish a good rapport and a respectful and empathic relationship with study participants.
- Ability to collaborate with multi-disciplinary team members and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisor, technical staff, and community-based and other partners.
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and citation management software.
