TITLE OF INTERNSHIP: Research Assistant InternINTERNSHIP SUPERVISOR: GEJE Program ManagerLOCATION: New York, New York (In-Person)ASSIGNMENT LENGTH: 6 months INTERNSHIP SUMMARY: The Population Council's Gender, Education, Justice, and Equity ( GEJE) innovation hub focuses on tackling the global learning crisis and inequities in participation. GEJE generates data and insights on the ripple effects of education, unpacks how progress in education can translate into economic and social equity, and identifies programs that are working to eliminate inequity and injustice.The Research Assistant Intern will be responsible for providing research, database, and logistical support to the Evidence for Gender and Education Resource (EGER) project. EGER seeks to address gender inequalities and injustices in global education by providing easily accessible data and evidence for the gender and education community. Through our free, interactive, and open-source database, users can discover who is doing what in the gender and education field, what's working where, and what are the biggest needs facing girls. The Research Assistant Intern's primary responsibility will be to support expanding and maintaining the EGER database through data entry, as well as conduct desk-research on global gender and education programs. The intern will also support the translation of the EGER web-portal into French and/or Spanish as a secondary responsibility.Ideal candidates can work for 6 months for 20 hours per week.Responsibilities: 1. Provide support with data entry, collection, and management. This includes collecting organizational and program data, providing quality assurance during data collection, entering all data with accuracy, and conducting data validation. 2. Support the translation of the EGER web portal into French and/or Spanish by drafting direct translation text or editing drafted text.3. Provide support on research projects, including conducting literature reviews, creating bibliographies, and formatting tables.4. Draft sections of and copy-edit reports, briefs, presentations, visualizations, and communications materials for EGER and other Population Council projects, as needed. 5. Other duties to support the overall development and management of GEJE, as assigned.Qualifications: We understand that there are many paths to acquiring expertise and experience and strong candidates may not have every qualification listed here. We encourage applications from individuals with diverse and/or nontraditional backgrounds who bring passion, skills, and experience in many or most of these areas. 1. Enrolled in or recently graduated from a Master's Degree Program in education, gender studies, public policy, anthropology, sociology, public health, or economics with at least 1 year of work experience in international development or research (internships are considered relevant work experience).2. Strong interest in gender and education, education research, and/or global education organizations and systems.3. Fluency or proficiency in French and/or Spanish (written).4. Excellent organizational skills, with keen attention to detail.5. Demonstrated ability to work independently and remain accountable, manage time efficiently, prioritize, and multi-task.6. Ability to read and synthesize published articles and grey literature.7. Excellent writing and communication skills, for both research and policy audiences. 8. Excellent English language skills (oral and written)9. Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook is required. 10. Experience with data collection and data management preferred.Hourly rate between $18-21 per hour, depending on knowledge, skills and experience.
