University of Maryland Eastern Shore's Agriculture Experiment Station and the Department of Agriculture, Food and Resource Sciences invites resumes for a full-time, grant-funded, non-tenure track position.
University Information: The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) is the 1890-Land-Grant University in Maryland, located in a rural setting on the Delmarva Peninsula between the Atlantic Ocean and Chesapeake Bay. The major metropolitan areas of Washington D.C., Baltimore, MD, and Philadelphia, PA are within easy travel distance.
Responsibilities
Conducts research including implementing ongoing collaborative research projects among UMES and USDA-ARS scientists on soil health, nutrient management and water quality, and participates in proposal development for extramural funding applications; and advise and direct undergraduate and graduate student research. Opportunities to provide instruction at the undergraduate and graduate level in soil related classes exist. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Classification 45-0000 Farming, Fishing, and Forestry Occupations Required Qualifications
Ph.D. in Soil Science, Hydrology, Agricultural Engineering, or a related discipline. Applicants should have a background or experience in both field and laboratory experimentation.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of runoff mechanisms, movement of phosphorus and nitrogen in the environment, nutrient management, and statistics.
Knowledge in modeling and GIS.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Must have strong written and communications skills; ability to form collaborative partnerships; the potential to develop and deploy new management practices as it relates to nutrient management required; and the ability to work with diverse faculty and student body.
