Job SummaryA Research Assistant/Research Associate position is available to study genetic models of human disease at the UCSF School of Medicine in San Francisco. Our lab uses cell biological and genetic approaches to study diseases as diverse as ocular development, hemorrhagic stroke, muscular dystrophy, and brain development. The overall goal of our research is to identify molecular mechanisms underlying a novel connective tissue disorder that may be targeted with therapeutic interventions. The successful candidate will assist laboratory research by providing technical assistance, preparing and arranging reagents, ordering and inventory of stocks, and maintenance of an extensive research database for animal husbandry.
The successful candidate will be responsible for animal husbandry, including careful maintenance of a colony-tracking database, general lab organization, and contributing technical assistance to scientists working on genetic models of cerebral cortical development and muscular dystrophy.
Techniques may include, but are not limited to: basic molecular biology, biochemistry, cell culturing, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, and microscopy. The Research Assistant/Research Associate will work under the direct supervision of a postdoctoral fellow. There may be opportunities for co-authorship of manuscripts if the individual is motivated and exerts extra effort.
