The Reed College Biology department seeks applicants for a full-time research associate to study the bacterial degradation of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) ( the material used to make plastic water bottles. This role reports to Jay Mellies, Professor of Biology. This is not a remote position.

Funding for this work is from a three-year, collaborative NSF RUI grant. Starting salary for this position is $22-$24/hour. Pay offers are contingent upon experience and are determined through an internal pay assessment. This is an overtime eligible position on the Research pay grade.
Who You Are
* You hold a bachelor or masters degree in a related field
* You have experience in bacterial genetics, chemistry, and have an interest in metabolism
* You have strong organizationals and writing skills
* You are interested and able to work in a lab alongside students and to serve as a mentor and resource
What You'll Do
* Conduct work in accordance with the instructions of the P.I.
* Interpret, analyze and present data
* reports on the status of research activities
* Modify and perform experiments from start to finish
* Oversee students in the lab as assigned
* Set up, operate and maintain lab equipment
* Other duties as assigned
