Position DetailsPosition Information Internal Posting?Posting Number SP004646P Position Title Research Associate I Division/College College of Agricultural & Life Sciences Department Entomology, Plant Pathology, and Nematology Location Moscow Posting Context Statement The position is a Research Associate I for Dr. Schroeder's research program. This position is responsible for the day-to-day research activities in the lab, planning and conducting experiments, in consultation with Dr. Schroeder, data collection and analysis, and providing summaries of the research. The Research Associate I is also responsible for managing the undergraduate researchers who work in the laboratory. The research focus is on microbiology of plant pathogens.Position Overview Performs research activities and analysis; implements and evaluates research procedures and data. Records observations and measurements then reports results. Responsible for analyzing and preparing results for publication. Works under general supervision with a certain degree of creativity and latitude. May supervise junior research personnel.Duties may include:
- Provide technical support in planning and/or designing of scientific projects, studies, or applications
- Plan and conduct research and analysis of scientific data
- Interpret test results and comparing with determined standards and limits
- Identify and evaluating scientific samples and determining need for further testing
- Develop recommendations and/or providing solutions, standards, and protocol to a wide range of difficult problems
- Plan, design, develop, monitor and/or evaluate portions of a scientific project, study, or application
- Provide scientific evaluations/assessments
- Research, implement, standardize, and evaluate new procedures
- Maintain detailed records of results and prepares written reports acceptable to the Principal Investigator and funding agencies
- Other duties as assigned

- Two years of post-bachelor's research experience related to the domain of this position
Required Education
- Bachelor's degree in microbiology, plant pathology, environmental science, biology or molecular genetics
Required Other
- Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to meet policy requirements for driving university vehicles
- Must be able to work odd and irregular hours
Additional Preferred
- Master's or PhD in microbiology, plant pathology, environmental science, biology, molecular genetics or related areas
- Two years of experience in laboratory, greenhouse or field research
- Experience in microbiology and molecular genetics, and use of various microbiology and molecular genetic instrumentation
- Demonstrated willingness to learn new techniques required in research projects and provide training if necessary
- Demonstrated skills in DNA sequence analysis programs, experimental design, statistical analysis (SAS, R, etc.) and/or programming
- Possess interests in writing research proposals, and extension and research based articles
- Experience with organization and time management
- Experience keeping records of research data and summarizing research data
- Experience developing and delivering scientific presentations

- Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move 50 pounds regularly
