SUMMARY OF POSITION:Dr. Mara Pavel-Dinu's laboratory seeks a Research Associate-I with the dual function of Laboratory and Mouse Colony Manager to support a newly opened and growing lab. The position offers the opportunity to provide the PI and the research team with organizational and technical support and engage in high-impact research. You will be part of a highly interactive, supportive, and inclusive research group expanding upon our genome editing platform for advancing novel treatments for patients with inherited immune disorders (PMID: 38096800, PMID: 30967552, PMID:33712802, PMID: 35773054). The newly established research group is part of the Center of Immunity and Immunotherapies (CIIT) of Seattle Children's Research Institute (SCRI). JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:The ideal candidate will divide their time between lab and mouse colony management and research. The percent effort may change according to research needs and publication or grant deadlines.Lab Management (~35%) - Responsible for helping oversee the day-to-day operational needs of the laboratory. This includes but is not limited to:
- The organization of laboratory materials, space, personnel, and equipment to ensure a clean and efficient environment for conducting cutting-edge research.
- Order and receive supplies, oversee equipment maintenance contracts, work with vendors for equipment repair and purchase, and manage overall lab organization.
- Perform all regulatory procedures for the lab, including writing and maintaining regulatory applications such as animal use protocols (IACUC) and IBC protocol, chemical database, managing the approval process, ensuring personnel training, and organizing the inspections for the various regulatory agencies.
Mouse Colony Manage (~ 35%) - Responsible for managing a mid-size mouse colony together with the Pl and researchers. This includes but is not limited to:
- Setting up breeding and working with the on-site veterinary personnel to ensure the health of the colony
- Performing genotyping and various techniques: collecting blood, mice irradiation pre-transplant, intra-femoral/intra-hepatic/intra-venous transplantation assays, monitoring health post-transplant,
- Help perform end-point transplant assays: harvesting and processing samples for downstream analyses. Training will be provided when necessary.
Research (~30%) - Responsible for executing and interpreting experiments under the PI's direct guidance.
- Depending on the candidate's training and interest, the candidate will be offered a research project involving developing or optimizing in vitro assays and/ or in vivo models to evaluate cellular products
- Present data at internal and external meetings and contribute data to manuscript publications.
Required Education and ExperienceBachelor's Degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Immunology, or related field.At least five (5) years laboratory experience.

Preferred- Knowledge of murine model systems and experience handling mice OR comfortable and willing to learn these techniques- Understanding of academic research facility needs- General background in a discipline related to specific lab(s) work- Demonstrated supervisory experience- Knowledge and experience in managing facilities, operations, maintenance, space, and equipment administration in a research or teaching setting.- Experience with maintaining mouse colony: breeding, genotyping, keeping clear and up-to-date records of the mouse colony, monitoring the overall well-being of the colony- Expertise in mouse-handling techniques- Experience with cell culture techniques, molecular biology, and/or animal models
Compensation Range$28.44 - $42.66 per hour
Salary InformationThis compensation range was calculated based on full-time employment (2080 hours worked per calendar year). Offers are determined by multiple factors including equity, skills, experience, and expertise, and may vary within the range provided.
