Job Summary

The Anna Molofsky Lab at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) is a vibrant, medium sized basic science laboratory studying neuroimmune signaling and its role in brain development and neuropsychiatric diseases. We are part of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and the Weill Institute for Neuroscience, in the brand-new Weill Neurosciences Building on the Mission Bay campus of UCSF. The lab currently has 9 postdoctoral fellows, two graduate students, and three technical staff performing experiments in mice, zebrafish, and human cells, with the long-term goal of discovering new immune based therapies for disorders including autism, schizophrenia, and neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's Disease.The lab manager will be a key part of the lab, coordinating and communicating with lab personnel and serving as a liaison between the lab and the PI. This will include scheduling and calendaring of lab events, presentations, and retreats. The lab manager will also manage equipment maintenance and repairs, take primary responsibility for organizing reagents and laboratory samples, and perform other tasks needed to keep the lab running efficiently and effectively. They will also contribute to independent research projects in the lab, by performing bench tasks such as tissue sectioning and histology.The ideal candidate will have excellent organizational, administrative, social, and communication skills, will be able to independently troubleshoot and problem-solve daily laboratory challenges, and will possess a genuine interest in biomedical science and science administration. The candidate should have prior bench and research experience, including in general molecular biology, brain sectioning, or tissue histology, and should have familiarity with laboratory equipment and approaches common in cell and molecular biology laboratories.

Required Qualifications
  • BA/BS in a related science and one or more years of recent, directly related work experience, utilizing the techniques or methods required by the position; and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • One or more years prior experience working with rodents in a biomedical research setting.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Excellent quantitative skills.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, calendaring (including google calendars and outlook), cloud storage (Dropbox), and other online tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a laboratory-related field, or 1-2 years prior experience managing a biomedical laboratory.
