C2SMART Center is seeking a Research Software Developer to work on faculty-led research projects. This position will primarily be responsible for managing the various database and technological needs of the C2SMART Center. The candidate will be instrumental in developing and maintaining the Center's database and network infrastructure that is relied upon for C2SMART's project and research activity. C2SMART is engaged in several active research projects that develop new tools and technologies based on numerous big datasets and sources, using innovative web-based and other emerging IT solutions. The candidate will support Center faculty, research staff, and students towards implementing and maintaining these systems. on analysis of big data and new technologies in transportation and smart cities. These tasks include software development activities on research projects that include assisting the Center in developing novel ways to analyze, process, and visualize transportation datasets from various research projects with computational requirements.The duties of the qualified candidate(s) for this position include:Supporting faculty-led research projects and managing the various technological needs of the C2SMART Center. The candidate will be instrumental in developing and maintaining the database and network infrastructure that is relied upon for successful executing of C2SMART project and research activity in compliance with the Center's data management plan and federally required guidelines.Leading the development of comprehensive full-stack database solutions for C2SMART Center applications and tools using emerging database tools and software solutions. Identifying, proposing, and supporting the development of innovative solutions that take advantage of emerging IT solutions towards the needs to C2SMART projects, tools, and applications.Coordinating project tasks to safely and securely collect, download, and share data from field and external sources towards meeting the needs of C2SMART researchers' and partners' needs.Organizing and helping maintain C2SMART's commercial and in-house software libraries per NYU and sponsor policies. Rigorously documenting all designed infrastructure and processes to facilitate seamless technology transfer and transition.Oversee the maintenance and development of the center's web presence, provide technical guidance to faculty, staff, and students in the procurement and usage of hardware and software tools, as well as contributing towards the design and development of new tools as required by sponsored projectsIn compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $47,500 to $64,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.The ideal candidate(s) for the Research Developer/Engineer requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a similarly related field. Must have experience in full-stack development, database management, or software development for research.The preferred candidate will possess one or all of:Development and maintenance of complex, web-based databases, and/or development of data management tools.Expert knowledge of AWS and cloud-based data solutions, relational databases (such as Oracle, MySQL), and knowledge/experience with NoSQL and Open Source technologies (such as Hadoop, Parquet, MongoDB, etc.).Working knowledge of data visualization tools and frameworks such as D3, jQery, and experience in web development and associated languages and libraries (PHP, CSS, HTML, Javascript).Experience with on-line communication tools for research information acquisition.Demonstrated history of employing version control in development along with rigorous documentation of network and processes is required.Ideal candidates shall also possess:Familiarity or interest in emerging technologies and research-oriented problem solving, and a willingness to work in a research-oriented role different from typical software development environment,Experience training and monitoring staff or students involved in development in terms of best practices in software documentation, version control, security, etc.A strong team-oriented attitude with the ability to establish work priorities.NYU Tandon faculty and students are at the forefront of the high-tech start-up culture in New York City and have access to NYU's Global Network University.
