Job Description:

Are you excited by the potential of large-scale carbon removal? If so, Captura Corp. is seeking an R&D Lab Technician to join us.

Captura is an early-stage technology start-up with the mission to develop globally scalable carbon removal to support a sustainable future for the worlds climate. Capturas unique technology was developed and proven in Caltechs laboratories and uses established electrochemical concepts to enable gigaton-scalable solutions for removing carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere via direct ocean capture. We capture carbon dioxide using only renewable electricity and seawater, creating no byproducts. CO2-depleted seawater is returned to the ocean to absorb CO2 that comes from the atmosphere.

Captura has a strong R&D effort to develop and scale proprietary ion exchange membranes for the electrodialysis component of our capture system. As an R&D Lab Technician, you will be responsible for lab scale testing and analysis of our proprietary ion exchange membranes to support the electrodialysis team in development and scale up of novel ion exchange membranes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct laboratory experiments and materials tests under supervision, ensuring accurate execution of procedures and adherence to SOPs.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, ensuring proper calibration and accurate results.
  • Perform quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) checks on experiments, maintaining detailed records of observations and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and technicians on research projects, providing updates in team meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with lab safety regulations, using PPE and following hazardous material protocols.
  • Assist in developing and validating new methods and processes, optimizing techniques with senior researchers.
  • Proactively manage project challenges and adapt quickly to shifting priorities in a dynamic startup environment.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative team culture in alignment with startup values.

Experience/Skill Set Requirements:

  • Associate or bachelors degree in materials science, chemistry, chemical engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • 1-3 years of chemical wet lab experience, including operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to troubleshoot processes and ensure consistent, accurate measurements.
  • Commitment to laboratory safety protocols and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Passion for climate tech and the CO2 capture industry, with the ability to adapt in a fast-paced, evolving startup environment.
  • Effective time management, organizational skills, and the ability to multitask across projects.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a willingness to learn new tools and technologies as needed.
