Job DescriptionPOSITION SUMMARYReporting to the Designated Institutional Officer (DIO) the Director of Research will work closely with the GME department to support faculty, resident, and student research and educational efforts. Additional emphasis towards structuring: research compliance, ACGME scholarly work compliance for faculty, and medical student and other affiliated student scholarly work collaboration. The research director will also help identify, develop, and implement opportunities to improve financial performance. Research activities will be primarily directed to quality improvement projects, retrospective patient data analysis for specific research studies with building of infrastructure to support prospective research studies, grant support, as well as pharmaceutical clinical trials. The Director of Research will administratively oversee the Research Review Committee (RRC) and serve as the primary consultant and driver to make sure that the organization is in compliance with all federal, state and local guidelines for the RRC in collaboration with the Institutional Review Board at the University Of Maryland, Baltimore. The Director of Research will work directly with the DIO, Resident Program Directors, and the Medical Student Clinical Coordinator to promote research efforts throughout the institution. The Director of Research will work independently to build the infrastructure needed for successful abstract, poster, and manuscript publications, grant applications, as well as industry sponsored research. Also conduct internal audits of clinical trials at UM Capital and report compliance issues to UM Capital Compliance and UMMS Research.Principal Duties:1. Leads and coordinates the efforts for research throughout the institution, supporting faculty, students, and learners2. Collaborates with faculty and students, and operates as a leader on projects to produce abstract, and poster presentations, and to publish manuscripts3. Reports ongoing and completed study efforts to appropriate committees, including General Medical Education Committee, Medical Staff Committee, and the Research Review Committee4. Promotes awareness of research efforts throughout the institution (ie coordinates newsletter, quarterly updates)5. Assists in developing annual operating and capital budgets for research activities and analysis of actual monthly financial performance to budget6. Conducts monthly reviews with appropriate leaders regarding ongoing funding and expense issues7. Develops long range forecasts for collaborative research programs by UMCAP and its research partners8. Promotes, expands and manages research efforts within the organization as directed9. Seeks partnerships with external agencies, investigators and others to promote research that meets UMCAP's mission and serves as a consultant for study design, protocol development, data collection and analysis10. Accesses and utilizes necessary data and reports to accomplish analysis and management reporting goals for the research enterprise11. Facilitates education of appropriate team members about the research process, including maintaining a compliance list of faculty and resident members with CITI and HIPAA training, and develops expanded research skills in selected staff members12. Reviews proposed projects for compliance with UM Capital Region System's policies and guides internal researchers through the system to accomplish project goals13. Monitors the status of approved projects14. Coordinates with corporate compliance, medical affairs and patient care services and other departments as indicated to develop research policies and procedures15. Attends select staff meetings and develops relationships with stakeholders in the success of the research function16. Will be involved in grant writing and managing the process of obtaining and managing research grants17.
