About InterDigitalInterDigital is a global research and development company focused primarily on wireless, video, artificial intelligence ( AI ), and related technologies. We design and develop foundational technologies that enable connected, immersive experiences in a broad range of communications and entertainment products and services. We license our innovations worldwide to companies providing such products and services, including makers of wireless communications devices, consumer electronics, IoT devices, cars and other motor vehicles, and providers of cloud-based services such as video streaming. As a leader in wireless technology, our engineers have designed and developed a wide range of innovations that are used in wireless products and networks, from the earliest digital cellular systems to 5G and today's most advanced Wi-Fi technologies. We are also a leader in video processing and video encoding/decoding technology, with a significant AI research effort that intersects with both wireless and video technologies. Founded in 1972, InterDigital is listed on Nasdaq.InterDigital is a registered trademark of InterDigital, Inc.For more information, visit: www.interdigital.com.
SummaryInterDigital is looking for self-motivated students to work closely with their talent scientists on machine vision tasks. The prospective candidates are expected to conduct original research on critical technologies towards VR/AR, autonomous driving, robotic navigation, etc. Scientific publications would be highly encouraged from the internship work. The duration of the internship may vary between 3-6 months. Ph.D. students with a good publication record in signal processing, machine learning / deep learning are preferred.As a popular data format for AR/VR, culture heritage and modeling, mapping, and navigation systems, point clouds face challenges in real-time processing, scale of data amount, as well as its sparsity and irregularity. It is an exciting research area to study efficient representation for point clouds. Gaussian splatting, that demonstrates good potentials for high quality view synthesis, utilizes point cloud as its representation. The prospective research intern(s) may focus on learning-based point cloud coding / processing related investigations.You will enforce a team of computer vision and image processing researchers and considered as a full team member with supports.
Responsibilities:Together with the InterDigital research team, the main responsibilities of the prospective students include,
- To identify technology challenges in the field related to point clouds;
- To propose novel and efficient ideas to address the challenges;
- To implement and verify the proposed methods; and
- To wrap up the results into patent applications, publication draft.
Qualifications:Ph.D. students with related research experiences are encouraged to apply.
- Research background in machine learning, deep learning, or computer vision would be highly appreciated.
- Research background in signal processing, image processing, graph-based data analysis would be appreciated.
- Experiences in point cloud processing/compression, especially on large scale and sparse point clouds.
- Research experiences in view synthesis technologies including NeRF and Gaussian Splatting.
- Research experiences with diffusion models on image/point cloud tasks.
- Python/C++ programming, familiar with prevailing learning frameworks, e.g., PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- Ability to wrap up technical reports and/or to prepare draft manuscripts for publications.
- Capable of independent research while being a great team player.
Keywords:point cloud compression, computer vision, image processing, machine learning, deep learning, neural network, gaussian splatting, NeRF
Expected Outcomes:In the end of internship, the expected deliveries include,
- Software modules for the proposed research ideas;
- Disclosures/patents;
- Publications are highly expected.
