College/Department Information
The Immunology Center of Georgia (IMMCG) represents a new initiative by the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University to leverage the ability of the immune system to combat disease. The IMMCG will accomplish this by assembling teams of biomedical researchers with strong records of scientific innovation and technological development. The IMMCG will be co-directed by world-class immunologists Drs. Catherine `Lynn Hedrick and Klaus Ley, both of whom have made major discoveries linking immune cells to specific mechanisms of disease. The goal of the IMMCG is to produce novel and effective treatments for conditions that heavily impact the communities of Georgia and the United States. The new center is aggressively recruiting faculty and staff to lead projects focused on cardiovascular disease, obesity and metabolic disorders, autoimmune and infectious disease, neurodegenerative disease and cancer.
Job Summary
Administrative accountability for leading, managing, developing, supervising, and evaluating all research personnel and supportive research staff. Manages and collaborates relationships with research staff to ensure professional and educational excellence in provision of quality research. Responsible for supervising, training and evaluation of supportive research staff. Collaborates with Grants/Fiscal Managers and designees to develop and maintain a balanced budget.
Dr. Klaus Ley Lab
Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:
Create & interview for lab job openings.
Dayforce as supervisor.
Supervise animal technician employee development scheduling experiments.
Coordinate shipping with collaborators.
Act as Environmental Health & Safety liaison for the lab.
Perform all regulatory aspects: IACUC, IRB.
Organizing and maintaining the lab, including restocking autoclaved lab items
* Consumables inventory
* Manage expiration dates
* Organize all refrigerators, freezers, and cold rooms.
Maintain inventory of LN2 dewars, antibodies, and reagents.
Establish and maintain vendor relationships for benefit of both the vendor and LJI by finding ways to cut costs and finding interesting publication opportunities for vendors (sharpening scissors, pipet people, HEMAVET, stem cell).
Compose, review, approve and implement SOPS, TRPS, AND TMS.
Maintain inventory and acted as `gate keeper of all human samples.
Write, update, and submit IBC (biohazard) protocols, IRBS (Lisa), eSirius (mice) and Concept Sheets for internal and external institutions.
Perform cost analyses of assays and experiments, western diet.
Schedule routine maintenances of laboratory equipment. Clean water baths. Change HEPA filters on incubators.
Purchasing duties:
* Place orders for individuals and common use items.
* Receive orders.
* Monitor expenses.
* Meet monthly, quarterly and yearly budgets.
Perform all other related duties/tasks as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Ph.D. from an accredited college or university with a minimum of one year directly applicable experience; previous supervisory experience.
OR
Master's degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of five years' progressive grant management, resources management and quality assurance program development experience; or major coursework completed on a Ph.D. in a related scientific field with two years of progressive grant management, resources management and quality assurance program development experience.
OR
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of eight years' progressive grant management, resources management and quality assurance program development experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
KNOWLEDGE
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.
SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
ABILITIES
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required).
Salary Range: $62,300-70,000
Pay Band: B12
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
