**Responsibilities:**

Participate in ongoing research studies in the Vaccine Research Unit relating to respiratory illnesses such as influenza and COVID-19, phase 1-3 vaccine studies, studies in therapeutic agents in both adults and pediatric populations. Position requires the ability to work independently, strong interpersonal skills in communicating with adult subjects and their families, their health care providers, and hospital staff at Strong, Highland and RGH, and a willingness to develop the logistics of subject enrollment, persistence and flexibility in assuring on-going subject cooperation and good data collection skills. On occasion, this position may require travel to private medical offices and Urgent Care facilities in the Rochester area to enroll potential subjects and obtaining required samples.

Responsibilities

General Purpose:

Provides research and nursing care to study subjects in the Division of Child Neurology. Manages study protocols including many complex interventional drug therapy treatments and monitors patient medications, illness and safety, documenting changes related to medication, symptoms and responses. Manages and submits study applications, amendments, and continuing reviews, while maintaining regulatory and study documentation. Ensures the integrity and security of all study data at all times. Coordinates aspects of study subject's attendance and participation at study visits and research team's participation in academic activities such as conferences and meetings.

Responisibilities:

- Clinical care: Performs assessments and coordinates care plan for study subjects, acts as clinical nurse for all participants enrolled in assigned studies. Serves as one of the primary points of contact for study subject needs, including medications and illness. Ensures safety and quality of care for subjects undergoing complex drug therapy treatments. Monitors subject symptoms, responses and disease progression, documenting and conveying information to physicians.

- Study conduct: Develop and implement recruitment strategies, perform chart reviews and monitor enrollment to make sure goals are met. Educate and consent subjects, schedule visits and support services (imaging, pharmacy, URMC labs, etc). Complete and maintain Case Report Forms and other study documentation in accordance with sponsor and various industry/federal requirements. Prepare and submit IRB/regulatory documents for protocol amendments and overall compliance. Monitor subject status for adverse events and ensure quality care; report to PI and sponsor within required timelines. Schedule and prepare for site monitoring and close out visits, audit study files and respond to sponsor queries as needed.

- Study start up: Evaluate protocols for logistical feasibility, potential patient population and facility and equipment requirements. Assist research administrator with budgeting of protocol procedures. Prepare sites for studies, to include set up of necessary ancillary services with internal URMC departments in alignment with protocol requirements.

- Administrative: Maintain compliance with University effort reporting policies by monitoring distribution of time spent across all studies. Maintain certifications and training as required. Attend regularly schedule research team meetings to provide updates in study status and recruitment.
