The focus of this position is studying the role of a novel truncated insulin receptor in the worm that arises by alternative splicing. In addition to studies of insulin receptor function, a new focus is on the role of splicing factors and their targets in development and aging. These pathways are being studied using genetic approaches, including CRISPR / Cas9 gene editing, forward and reverse genetics, RNASeq as well as life history trait analysis. Essential and Other Functions: 80% Laboratory Research (essential) C. elegans culture and genetics, microscopy, immunoblotting, qPCR, cloning, experimental design, data analysis and recording primary data and methods used. 10% Research communication (essential) Critical analysis of the literature, preparing manuscripts, oral presentations and posters. 10% Mentoring (secondary) Training graduate, undergraduate and technical staff in theoretical and/or bench science Summary of Gill Lab research: A research position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Matthew Gill.
