Job DetailsThe Research Fellow participates in research and development activities related to translational cancer research in the Cawley Center for Translational research including research focused on reducing cancer disparities, organoid culture models and immune responses in breast and ovarian cancer. The Cawley Center for Translational Cancer Research (CTCR) brings scientific discoveries from the bench to the bedside of patients. The CTCR encompasses a 7,000 square foot research lab at ChristianaCare's Helen F. Graham Cancer Center & Research Institute with research programs in several solid tumors.The CTCR has formal research alliances with the University of Delaware and the Wistar Cancer Institute in Philadelphia, allowing access to state-of-the-art core facilities and research support. The fellow will contribute to intellectual development of research projects, utilize established scientific techniques to compile and analyze data, write scientific reports, papers grants and abstracts and participate in presentations at local and national meetings.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Collaborates with scientists, physicians and staff to plan, organize, coordinate and conduct research in assigned projects using immunological analysis and molecular biology techniques.
  • Maintains laboratory notebook containing laboratory protocols used and results derived for each experiment, carefully organized and ordered by project and date and keeps highly technical records of all experiments.
  • Collects clinical and non-clinical data, performs data entry, maintenance, organization, and retrieval of data.
  • Performs literature searches and analysis of existing data to support protocols, publications, and grants.
  • Participates in the writing of clinical protocols, scientific abstracts, manuscripts, and grants.
  • Assists with abstracts and presentations for national and international meetings.
  • Participates in training of fellows, residents, students and volunteer workers as needed.
  • Assist with ordering and procurement of supplies and equipment and with general maintenance of laboratory in coordination with the laboratory manager.
  • Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; report to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:MD with 1-2 years residency experience PhD in life sciences or health sciences; cancer research experience preferred. 0 - 3 year experienceKNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bench-top molecular biology skills, and experience in research design and scientific writing in cancer biology or a related field.
  • Experience in flow cytometry, immunostaining, immunohistochemistry and processing and analysis of human tumor, tumor infiltrating lymphocytes and blood samples preferred.
  • Ability to use independent judgment to develop model concepts and approaches for translational cancer research.
  • Ability to gather and analyze statistical data and generate reports.
  • Strong understanding of scientific principles
