Research ScholarTechnology and International AffairsThe Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, a unique global network of policy research centers, seeks a research scholar for its Washington, D.C.-based Technology and International Affairs program. Candidates for this position will be considered at the Fellow or Senior Fellow levels.The subject matter focus of the role will depend on the background of the individual selected. We particularly welcome applicants working in artificial intelligence policy-including the governance of AI, the geopolitics of AI, and AI in the Global South. We will also consider outstanding applicants working in other areas, such as global technology competition and trade, the information environment, cyber issues, or biotechnology.The fellow or senior fellow will be charged with achieving tangible policy impact on globally consequential technology challenges. They will use the tools of a think tank - namely rigorous analysis, public and private communications, and convenings of relevant stakeholders - to inform and influence high-level policy decisions.The successful candidate will have the independent ability to identify important yet addressable policy problems, frame these problems in original and compelling ways, articulate a practical path to toward real-world solutions, and develop and execute a viable work plan to advance progress consistent with Carnegie's mission and institutional competence. The candidate should have a mix of deep subject matter expertise, strong writing and interpersonal skills, entrepreneurial drive, an understanding of decision-making processes, the ability to craft narratives and build coalitions, and a commitment to engage pragmatically with a wide range of actors around the world.Preferred candidates will have an outstanding record of achievement in technology policy, whether in government, policy research, academia, or the private sector. All candidates should possess an advanced degree. This is a hybrid role based in Washington, D.C. The salary range for this position is $110,000 to $205,000 depending on education, experience, and whether the offer is made at the fellow or senior fellow level.Located in Dupont Circle, we offer an outstanding work environment and generous benefits.
