Non-Competitive: Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, engineering, biostatistics, public health, epidemiology, or a related field and three years of post-degree professional research experience in an appropriate field, or a Master's degree in the appropriate field and two years of such experience; or a doctorate in the appropriate field.Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with large statewide administrative relational databases such as NYSIIS and fluency in SQL/SAS or related statistical software such a R, Tableau or Python as well as GIS software such as ArcGIS. Experience with data systems such as NYSIIS, public health experience, ability to effectively work independently as well as part of a team would be preferred. Duties Description The research Scientist 2 will be part of the Bureau of Surveillance and Data Systems (BSDS) New York State Immunization Information System (NYSIIS) Program. This position will assist in the management and evaluation of data in NYSIIS.The incumbent will participate in research projects utilizing NYSIIS data and other available data including projects to identify indicators for children who are at risk for being under immunized.The incumbent will summarize results, create written reports, and collaborate with staff to develop applicable program solutions; and other duties as assigned. Additional Comments This position may require travel throughout New York State including overnights to areas not served by public transportation.For new State employees appointed to graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts.
