Job Title: Research Scientist IGrade: 18Salary: $32,464 - 39,051The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene is seeking a candidate to fill a part-time position (20 hours a week at 50% full-time effort) in the Psychology Department at the Institute for Basic Research. This is a grant-based position.This position is for an Alzheimer in Down Syndrome-Diversity, Outreach, Recruitment and Education Core (ADDORE) Coordinator for a National Institutes of Health grant examining the connection between Down syndrome (DS) and Alzheimer disease (AD), the Alzheimer Biomarker Consortium-Down Syndrome (ABC-DS). The role of this individual position will be devoted to minority outreach at both agencies serving people with developmental disabilities and community groups to help our site engage a more diverse group of participants. The ultimate goal is to improve our recruitment of minority populations. The chosen candidate must possess good social skills and public speaking experience.Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitor and attend conferences on DS and AD for recruitment opportunities.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with local community groups serving the needs of minority communities.
- Convene an advisory group to ensure diversity
- Develop culturally appropriate outreach materials to ensure an understanding of AD in the population with DS within minority communities.
- Assist the global outreach coordinator with creation of focus groups (in person and virtual) in the DS community and in underrepresented communities.
- Maintain social media presence for the ABC-DS research study.
- Perform other duties as related to the research project as requested by the Principal Investigator and study coordinator.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in social sciences, communications/marketing and/or public relation areas and two years of professional research experience in an appropriate field. A master's degree in an appropriate field may substitute for one year of the experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in working with historically disadvantaged communities.
- Experience in research or an equivalent area.
- Experience with website and social media development.
- Bilingual fluency in Spanish.
