Job Summary:We are seeking a Research Scientist for the Beverage Ingredient Science & Technology (S&T) team. In this role, you will conduct and support ingredient application programs to identify and validate new ingredient and formulation technologies that enhance our global Beverage portfolio.
Key Accountabilities:- Technical Evaluation: Support and drive the technical evaluation of new ingredient and formulation technologies for our Beverage portfolio, including Sports and Fitness, Hydration, and Carbonated Soft Drinks (CSD).
- Hands-On Assessment: Conduct hands-on application assessments and testing at both the bench and pilot plant levels, leveraging experimental design methodologies.
- Cross-Category Collaboration: Facilitate interactions and linkages between key S&T programs across Beverage categories to ensure program alignment and technology transfer to regional teams.
- External Partnerships: Identify and leverage external partners to source new ingredients and technologies, assessing their applicability in Beverage products and delivering proven solutions to product development teams.
- Technical Solutions: Collaborate with technical program leaders to deliver solutions that improve the nutrition and performance of Beverage products, utilizing expertise in food physical chemistry and ingredient functionality.
- SME Network Development: Initiate and build a network of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) with global R&D peers to transfer and implement new technologies across teams.
- Capability Programs: Focus on supporting capability programs and application assessments related to functional ingredients and clean label preservatives. This includes model formula application, technical unlocks for beverage compatibility, shelf stability validation, and sensory assessment.
- Technology Demonstration: Demonstrate technology applicability and potential through protocept development and presentations for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Partnerships for Solutions: Leverage strong partnerships with external and internal experts (analytical, sensory, academia) to resolve key technical challenges.
- Economic Evaluations: Perform basic economic evaluations on ingredients, suppliers, and product formulations to assess viability.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Actively participate in cross-functional teams that include members from Product Development, Regulatory, Legal, Marketing, Purchasing, Engineering, and other disciplines.
Qualifications:Education: BS/MS in Food Science & Technology, Food Chemistry, or a related field.Experience: 1-2 years of experience in the Food Industry or a related area.Research Expertise: Proven ability to utilize the scientific method and critical thinking to drive robust research programs and deliver results.Food Chemistry Knowledge: Understanding of food chemistry, carbohydrates, product formulation and development, ingredient technology, and food safety.Analytical Skills: Functional knowledge of analytical test methodologies and data interpretation.Project Management: Detail-oriented individual with the proven ability to independently lead multiple projects and work streams simultaneously, leveraging project management tools.Communication Skills: Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse personalities and work styles.Curiosity and Creativity: A self-starter with technical curiosity and a highly creative mindset, eager to gain and apply knowledge to new products and opportunities.Travel: Willingness to travel as needed.
