Job Type Full-timeDescriptionThe Research Scientist assists the Principal Investigator in carrying out research experiments. The ability to grasp the rationale for the methods used and careful attention to details of the protocols are important for success. A high level of responsibility, flexibility, and independence are required to execute the diverse duties of this position. Essential Duties/Responsibilities:•Responsible for independently planning and performing experiments, generating and analyzing data and presenting results and next steps to support the development of the overall research program.•Conduct a range of physiological assays, including in vivo imaging, blood collection, and hemodynamic assessments.•Design and execute in vivo and ex vivo experiments using small rodent experimental models.•Maintain proper documentation using appropriate note taking practices.•Presentation of results to colleagues and staff.•Proactively communicates observations and findings to supervisor.•Prepares oral and written reports for their supervisor. This entails coherently and effectively communicating laboratory research by writing abstracts, manuscripts, grant proposals and data reports for grants and oral presentations with corresponding slide presentation for internal, local and national meetings.•Work cooperatively with other PIs and staff in the laboratory to carry out collaborative research.•Train and assist other staff and non-laboratory personnel in lab procedures and equipment.•Perform other related duties as necessary or assigned. Requirements•Ph.D. in biology, chemistry, or a related science preferred. •Hands-on experience with rodent microsurgical techniques and in vivo imaging•Demonstrated experience in cardiovascular physiology/pharmacology research•Minimum of two years' experience in a laboratory setting, five years preferred.•The ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.•The ability to be responsible, organized, and a problem solver.•The ability to manage multiple projects in a rapidly changing, deadline-driven environment.•A professional demeanor.•Strong analytical, time management, organizational, and interpersonal skills.•Excellent verbal/written communication and skills.•The ability to effectively interact with individuals from various cultures and backgrounds.•Professional-level proficiency in Microsoft Office (particularly MS Excel).•The ability to learn department specific systems and hardware as needed.Physical Requirements:
- Working safely with chemicals and tolerating normal odors/airborne particulate matter of a lab is required.
- Wearing protective clothing or equipment is mandatory.
- Sustain prolonged periods of standing or sitting at a desk and working on a computer or while operating equipment.
- Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 15 pounds frequently; and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Walk and bend from the waist occasionally.
- Reach with hands and arms.
- Speak, hear, read, and comprehend English.
