The Research Scientist - Synthetic Organic Chemistry is a hands-on function responsible for carrying out continuous, rapid cadence, new product development of reagent kits and consumables for SCIEX Capillary Electrophoresis systems. This role is actively involved in new product development, product sustaining and capability development activities while collaborating with scientists, product managers, reagent manufacturing, systems engineers and customers. In this role you will have the opportunity to develop novel chemistries and applications for Capillary Gel Electrophoresis (CGE, CZE, ICIEF) and associated instrumentation. You will be responsible for understanding customers' needs and routine operations to help guide the development of technologies that address customers' needs. This position is part of the SCIEX Global Research & Development (R&D) team and will be located on-site in Framingham. The Framingham R&D team works closely with R&D teams across the globe to develop and provide integrated solutions to the customers. In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Planning, organization and execution of independent research that includes conception and development of novel chemistries and improved workflows for CE applications.
  • Developing and testing gels for capillary electrophoresis applications
  • Collaborating with Hardware research and Applications team for evaluating new chemistries for innovative workflows.
  • Carrying out, completing and communicating the results of original and independent research in the form of presentations, peer-reviewed publications, invention disclosures
  • Carrying out tasks related to new product development, providing support in design transfer to manufacturing and product sustainment
  • Providing scientific and technical support to customers and collaborators.
The essential requirements of the job include:
  • Extensive expertise in capillary electrophoresis and its applications, complemented by a strong background in synthetic organic chemistry. Proficient in polymer and material science, essential for gel development in capillary electrophoresis applications.
  • Proven experience in designing and formulating gels specifically for capillary gel electrophoresis applications. A minimum of a Master's degree in Chemistry or Bioanalytical Chemistry with over 5 years of relevant experience, or a Ph.D. with at least 2 years of experience in capillary electrophoresis.
  • Working with stakeholders (Quality, Product Management and other R&D teams) and following QMS processes related to chemistry and consumables development.
  • Experience with troubleshooting of CE instrumentation and Software within the overall workflow is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work well within a cross-functional team environment.
It would be a plus if you also possess knowledge and previous experience in:
  • Mass spectrometry
  • Microfluidics
  • Liquid chromatography
  • Broad experience in analytical chemistry

The salary range for this role is $90,000-130,000. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future. This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
