The position will support all research, teaching, and service programs conducted for the Beef Center on the University Farms. Examples of Duties
  • Assist to increase research activity at the Beef Center and expand support of partnerships in beef research and production at SIU University Farms.
  • Maintain all required animal care and use protocols and records as required by SIU IACUC, including inventory of animals, feeding, herd health, forages, and manure management.
  • Ensure that all facilities and equipment are maintained properly.
  • Perform all feeding, animal care/herd health, breeding, calving, and manure management as required for daily care of animals.
  • Coordinate all research and teaching activities for the Beef Center with faculty. Assist faculty, other researchers, and technicians with implementation of teaching and research protocols.
  • Works under the supervision of the University Farms Program Coordinator, as well as Program Director when necessary.
Qualifications Required:Must have a valid driver's license and one of the following: Minimum of a Bachelors degree in animal science or closely related field by date of hire with three years' experience working in beef production or beef research. OR Masters degree in animal science by date of hire with one year experience working in beef production or beef research.Preferred:
  • AI certification
  • Experience in cattle management and production
  • Experience in forage and pasture management
  • Public speaking experience
  • Class A CDL
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
