Within six months of hire, must reside in Johnson County or within a twenty mile radius of the Johnson County Sheriff's Office. Must become certified by the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy as a Reserve Peace Officer per Iowa Code (training is provided in-house).Specific DutiesOperates motor vehicle and two-way radio in assigned areas, observing traffic and other law violations issuing citations or making arrests as appropriate. Provides law enforcement presence on foot, on patrol bicycle, and in patrol vehicles at special events, including races, parades, and festivals. Responds to assignments from dispatch to crime or accident scenes, citizen requests for assistance or civil disturbance scenes. Assists investigators by providing crime scene security, crowd control, and additional manpower as requested. Directs traffic at accident and disaster scenes, and assisting other emergency crew personnel.. Supplements and assists full-time jail and patrol division deputies in the completion of their duties. Enters data accurately into county computer systems. Attends scheduled training and meetings. Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with County policies, procedures, and safety practices.
