JOB DESCRIPTIONThe University of Indianapolis seeks applicants a Residence Director, which is a full time, exempt staff role. The Residence Director is a professional member of the Office of Residence Life and is responsible for the overall administration of their assigned residence hall, staff, and student development in addition to departmental assignments. Residence Directors should be committed to increasing student engagement and carrying out the mission of the Division of Student Affairs.This is a Live-In position, which will require the Residence Director to live in an appointed residence hall apartment. This position will begin immediately once a candidate is selected. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain accurate records including occupancy, key inventories, student conduct, budget accounts, and other housing related processes
- Coordinate residence hall maintenance procedures and ensure prompt follow-up
- Recruit, select, train, supervise, and evaluate student staff
- Maintain weekly student staff meetings
- Communicate clear performance and involvement expectations to student staff
- Assist in the development and instruction of Student Staff; including training, selection, in- services, and staff meetings
- Establish a student culture where diversity is encouraged and where students learn to respect differences, take responsibility for their actions, and exercise leadership
- Maintain a high level of visibility and interact with students on a regular basis
- Contribute to the effective team management of all relevant problems, issues, and opportunities
- Assist students, individuals, and groups with their needs and concerns
- Support and assist with departmental programmatic initiatives, including assigned committee work, which may often require collaboration with other offices
- Maintain active participation with staff development activities, plan and participate in year round individual professional development opportunities, and assist in providing professional development for student and professional staff
- Communicate guidelines of conduct, define student responsibilities, and serve as initial disciplinary hearing officer
- Council and advise students, provide referrals when needed or requested, and intervene in crisis situations
- Carry out On Duty responsibilities
- Meet weekly with the Residence Life Staff and Student Affairs Suite Staff
- Serve on University Committees as determined by Assistant Director and/or Associate Dean of Students
QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's Degree from an accredited institution by time of appointment is required
- Prior residence hall and leadership experience required
- Prior supervisory experience is required
- Demonstrated ability to understand the needs of people from diverse backgrounds and interests required
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) with individuals and before groups are required
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends is required
- Ability and willingness to live in a residence hall apartment is required
