This position requires the ability to have direct interactions with professional staff, faculty, and students, including student leaders and student staff. This position administers assignments processes under the direction of the Assistant Director for Assignments & Marketing and supervises front desk operations for housing where applicable. The successful staff member must have a passion for working with a diverse student population, be committed to student learning and development, possess strong critical thinking and problem- solving skills, demonstrate initiative, communicate effectively, have a positive attitude, and an ability to manage structured autonomy.Staff positions in Housing Operations and Residence Life are not traditional office hour positions. Schedules are influenced by student and community needs. There will be times throughout the year when the SHRC is expected to work evenings and weekends. Availability during this time will be determined in conjunction with the supervisor.PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIESGraduate Housing (Housing Operations, Assignments and Data Management)
  • Oversees the administration and communication of room assignment processes for graduate student housing and assist with other assignment-related operations
  • Facilitates room changes and serves as a member of the contract release review committee
  • Communicates directly with students and families to assist with navigation of housing concerns, including but not limited to mediation of conflict, housing accommodations, and requests for reassignment
  • Coordinates Area opening, closing, and summer transition for assigned facilities
  • Manages assigned budget accounts
  • Communicates and coordinates facility related concerns with Facilities personnel
Undergraduate Housing (Housing and Residential Curriculum)Academic Support & Learning Communities
  • Participates in meetings to discuss opportunities, issues, and strategies to promote student learning
  • Works with faculty, staff, and student stakeholders to develop integrated experiences for Learning Communities
  • Coordinates academic achievement recognition/incentive programs
Student Leadership
  • Supports the student staff leadership development curriculum
  • Advises Community Council executive board for area with opportunities to serve as an adviser for Residence Hall Association and National Residence Hall Honorary
  • Participates in the facilitation of student leadership training for student staff and student leaders
  • Promotes student leadership opportunities within the residence halls and apartments
Residential Curriculum
  • Creates and implement learning outcome focused lesson plans for building and/or area
  • Promotes community development at the floor and community level
  • Enhances student learning and development through intentional individualized community experience
  • Establishes goals and priorities for building inclusive communities
  • Supervises, selects, and develops staff employees
  • Supervises a variety of student staff, which includes Resident Advisors, Lead Resident Advisor, Operations Manager, Desk Workers, and a Graduate Hall Coordinator
  • Evaluates staff development, based on formal and informal needs assessment, learning outcomes and targeted goals
  • Facilitates meetings with student staff to discuss progress on goals, community experiences, community development, and learning outcomes
  • Develops, executes, and evaluates recruitment, training, and development for all student staff Saint Louis University Department of Housing and Residence Life Residence Hall Coordinator positions
  • Fosters ideals of cura personalis by encouraging individual, personal and professional development
Graduate & UndergraduateCrisis Intervention/Response
  • Serves on-call as a first responder and a point of contact for campus emergencies
  • Works with campus partners including but not limited to Dean of Students, Vice Provost for Graduate Education, Department of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, Student Health and Counseling Center, Office of Student Responsibility and Community Standards, Campus Ministry, and Title IX Office in response to issues/incidents in the areas
  • Assists with incident debrief meetings and the Behavioral Concern Committee through providing information and updates on students of concern.
  • Tracks and assesses intervention efforts for reporting purposes
Collaboration
  • Collaborates with Student Involvement, International Student Services, Graduate Education and Campus Ministry to support student growth and development
  • Collaborates with Assistant Director for Undergraduate and Graduate Student Programming to host/market/promote programming opportunities for students
  • Supports division strategic priorities and University-wide common core learning outcomes
  • Assists campus partners with student recruitment initiatives
Community Standards and Student Conduct
  • Serves as a hearing officer for cases and conduct meetings with student(s) utilizing restorative practices
  • Determines responsibility and assign sanctions, such as educational tasks, reflection activities, and community service
  • Utilizes Maxient (conduct database) to track student incidents and manage assigned cases
  • Advises Resident Advisors and student leaders to confront negative student behavior
  • Documents or assists in the documentation of incidents as they arise
  • Resolves student issues and concerns in a timely manner
Assessment
  • Utilizes quantitative and qualitative assessment to provide quality service to students
  • Supports and administers approved department and/or division assessment programs/initiatives
  • Captures feedback from residents about academic, personal, or community concerns, successes, and issues
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Maintains a balanced schedule of office hours for committee and conduct meetings, staff one-on-ones, and walk-in appointments with students
  • Provides written reports such as incident reports, quarterly reports, community development plan and others
  • Provides oversight of desk operations including payroll approval
  • Manages student assignment and occupancy changes within area and in conjunction with Housing Operations
  • Coordinates area opening, closing, and summer transition in conjunction with Housing Operations
  • Manages assigned budget accounts Saint Louis University Department of Housing and Residence Life Residence Hall Coordinator
  • Communicates and coordinates facility related concerns with Facilities personnel
  • Manages damage billing process for community damages and student check outs throughout the year in conjunction with Housing Operations
  • Co-manages the Emotional Support Animal documentation process
  • Performs other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Two years of related work experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree with a focus in college student personnel, higher education, or a closely related field
  • Previous experience working with a residential community staff
REMUNERATIONThis is a 12-month position, with a competitive salary range.
