Coastal Bend College (CBC) is a dynamic, success driven Community College that is focused on student success across 10 counties in South Texas with the main campus in Beeville, TX and 3 other centers in Alice, Kingsville and Pleasanton. We are searching for an engaging, passionate, Resident Assistant (RA) to help lead our College during this ever-changing Community College environment.Target start date: 8/19/2024 Employment Type: Non-ExemptEach Resident Assistant receives a room credit award of $900.00 (covers dorm cost per semester) and meal plan credit of $2,150.00 (19-week meal plan per semester). Primary Site Location: Beeville Open Until FilledEssential Functions: The Resident Assistant at CBC (Coastal Bend College) lives at Benton Hall (residence hall) and serves as a leader and resource for students. The position serves as a critical link between the residents within Benton Hall and the Campus. The position requires being a representative of the College and a representative of student issues at Benton Hall and across campus. Additionally, this position serves in an on-call duty rotation in the evenings and weekends that restricts the individual to campus grounds during the service of those hours. Duties and Responsibilities: Community Development: Knows and interacts with all students who reside at Benton Hall Creates an environment where the needs and concerns of diverse populations of students are appreciated and respected. Promotes an environment that is conducive to academic and social development. Supports Residence Life activities and events. Promotes and supports CBC events and activities. Create and execute programs designed for personal and community growth. Role Model: Communicates and promotes the CBC mission, Res Life rules and regulations and college policies. Knows, abides by, and enforces all rules, regulations, and policies of the residence halls and of CBC (including the Residence Life Handbook). Serves as a student leader to all resident in Benton Hall, treating all residents with respect and fairness. Support to residents; Assists students with academic, personal, and social concerns, making timely referrals, as necessary. Mediates roommate conflicts. Responds to crisis or incident-related situations. Works with the Office of Residence Life in conjunction with Facilities Management and Campus Safety staff to resolve maintenance issues and safety concerns. Administrative: Participate in Training, Move-in, Move-out, Health and Safety Inspections, Safety Drills, and other administrative duties as needed. Attend staff meetings and one-on-one meetings with the Director of Residence Life Participate in the on-call duty rotation schedule requiring the on-call RA to periodically walk around the hall, respond to any incidents, assist students, and document issues or incidents. Complete the duty log after each on-call duty rotation Time Commitment: Participates in all training, staff meetings, committee assignments, move-in and move-out days, and holiday closings during the year. Must be available evenings and weekends. Help with major on-campus events (examples include New Student/Athletic Orientation, and Commencement). Has limited opportunity for additional employment on/off-campus because presence in the community is critical and limitations presented by the Affordable Care Act Other: A Resident Assistant terminated for being found responsible for a serious conduct violation or failing to fulfill the job responsibilities will be expected to repay a portion of the room and meal credit. Minimum Qualifications:Currently enrolled at CBC. Completed one full academic semester in housing. Achieved a cumulative 2.5 GPA (Grade Point Average) (both during the application process and throughout employment).
