Job Type Full-time Description JOB DETAILS Salary: $45,000 - $55,000 a year; commensurate with experience Job Type: Full-time with benefits POSITION SUMMARY Since 1924 the Union League Boys & Girls Clubs has been able to offer its youth a resident camp experience in Salem, Wisconsin roughly 75 miles north of Chicago. Our private 247-acres of land offer pastoral freedom and beautiful woodlands that surround Lake Francis for campers to enjoy a wide variety of activities ranging from water based activities to camping and outdoor living skills. The Camp Director is a full time, year round position that oversees our ULBGC Camp operations at our resident camp for seasonal summer camp and off-season programming throughout the year. The Camp Director role is responsible for providing leadership to the team, interpreting the vision of the Camp Committee and CEO, and planning and directing the overall ULBGC Camp program, operation, marketing and outreach of the summer camp and off-season camp activities.   • Responsible for all Camp related staff recruitment and hiring processes in conjunction with the Senior Director.
  • Oversee and facilitate staff orientation, training and ongoing staff development.
  • Responsible for staff performance reviews and compensation recommendations.
  • Ability to multitask successfully, meet deadlines and operate in a fast paced environment while leading a team to success.
  • Design, deliver and evaluate the outdoor camping experience that meets the needs and interests of the camp's target population to ensure their delivery in a safe and quality manner.
  • Design, supervise and implement programs and activities appropriate to the camper population.
  • Work with the Camp Committee to utilize Continuous Quality Improvement practices to analyze input from campers, families and staff regarding the quality, safety and enjoyment of the camp program and staff.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of crisis and risk management procedures.
  • Remain current with training on Trauma Informed Care and the developmental needs of youth.
  • During the summer season, the Camp Director will be required to live on camp in Salem, WI to oversee operations.
  • During the off-season the Camp Director's office will be located in Club One located in Chicago.
  • During the off-season, the Camp Director is responsible for:
  • Collaborating with colleagues to create exciting camper experiences for day trips and camp retreats.
  • Increasing parent awareness of Camp programs to build trust.
  • Collaborating with partners to offer leadership retreats for day trips and overnight experiences.
  • Oversee maintenance of all Camp records including but not limited to: youth records, staff records, visitors, maintenance requests, and vehicle arrivals/departures.
  • Responsible for maintaining the property in accordance with all State of Wisconsin, Kenosha County, and Paddock Lake/Salem laws and requirements.
  • Work with Camp Property Manager to ensure the Camp meets the needs of youth, volunteers, and rental/partnership groups throughout the year.
  • Promote the use of Camp as appropriate by ULBGC Clubs and community groups.
  • Collaborate with Directors/Site Coordinators of all ULBGC Clubs to maximize camp trips throughout the year.
  • Collaborate with partner agencies, schools and organizations to promote the Camp.
  • Configure and utilize camp registration management software to make it easy for parents to sign up, get communications, and remember to bring their child to the bus for their first day of camp.
  • Manage and update Camp's social media presence and online platforms to engage families and promote camp activities.
OTHER JOB DUTIES
  • Attend pertinent ACA, BGCA, ULBGC and other training required for the position.
  • Be present at Club events at sites throughout the city to build relationships with Club staff, club members, their families and the community.
  • Other duties as assigned including evening and weekend events and recruitment opportunities.
Requirements MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Well-versed in social emotional learning skills to build and deepen a positive camp culture and climate for staff and campers alike.
  • Trained in Trauma Informed Care and Restorative Justice practices
  • Experience with team building and conflict resolution skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Social Work, Nonprofit business, or related degree.
  • Experience working with underserved urban youth, facilitating programs, facility management, camper and staff recruitment and management.
  • Experience with budget management and grant management.
  • Experience communicating with government, private, and personal funders.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft programs.
  • A valid driver's license and ability to drive a 14-passenger van.
  • General knowledge of American Camp Association Accreditation.
  • Has or has the ability to get and maintain all essential certifications to operate the camp including but not limited to: CPR/First Aid Certification.
  • Willingness to periodically commute between Chicago, Illinois and Salem, Wisconsin.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Spanish speaking is preferred. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY The Camp Director position is responsible to hire and manage all seasonal staff. WORK ENVIRONMENT Operates in a professional office environment and at Camp. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. Ability and willingness to work in various activity areas and weather conditions is required. Salary Description $45-55k
