Together, we're united in our mission and these shared values: we're motivated by our faith, we support one another, we champion justice, we pursue excellence, and we're in it for the long haul.As a Child and Family Specialist, you will be primarily responsible for providing care and programming for residents and children in the recovery program, providing a safe and supportive environment that enhances the health and wellbeing of families. You will develop a caring and professional relationship with residents and their children and offer insight into their functioning and participation in program activities. This position is expected to function effectively with moderate supervision while following the guidelines given on procedures, along with agency, federal, and state regulatory requirements.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES - Conduct basic child developmental assessments;
- Facilitate group activities and resource gathering for women and children;
- Provide groups and informational meetings for parents;
- Strengthen the primary mother-child's relationship through child-led play;
- Educate parents on appropriate age related expectations;
- Work with treatment team to identify and provide strategies to address child's trauma symptoms;
- Assist parents with identifying their individual and family strengths and needs;
- Provide support to staff and work collaboratively for the wellbeing of the children and families served;
- Role model and teach strategies to assist parents to be more thoughtful about their own feelings, thoughts, and expectations before responding to their child's challenging behaviors and emotional difficulties;
- Role model and teach nurturing strategies to strengthen the child's prosocial behaviors ;
- Role model and teach appropriate discipline strategies to provide effective consequences;
- Demonstrate respect, honor and support for family cultural differences;
- Provide support, education, and resources for families;
- Strive to instill a lifelong love of learning through joyful play;
- Complete other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent;
- Bachelor's level degree in Early Childhood Education or related field of study from an accredited college, or Associate's Degree with three to five years of related experience;
- Must be at least 21 years of age to operate a vehicle on behalf of the agency;
- Minimum of one year of experience working with substance use and co- occurring mental health disorders with individuals in a residential setting preferred;
- Prior experience working with children and families who are experiencing stress and life challenges;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Must have an ability to provide excellent and compassionate customer service;
- Ability to work independently and exercise a high level of confidentiality and professionalism;
- Must be reliable with time sensitive deadlines and tasks;
- Have the ability to serve as positive role model;
- Demonstrated ability to nurture and provide structure, support, and respect to others;
- Must be able to pass required medical examinations and have the physical ability to fulfill the essential job functions.
- Documentation of immunity to vaccine preventable diseases orthe willingness to receive vaccination, or seek an exemption;
- Must be able to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary treatment team;
- Computer skillssufficient to perform essential functions including knowledge of MicrosoftOffice suite;
- Must be 21 years old with a valid driver'slicense with at least 3 years driving experience in the U.S. to operate avehicle on behalf of Bethany. Must also pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR)check and maintain a reliable vehicle with proof of adequate insurancecoverage;
- Pass a criminal history screen, including state and local child protection agency registries;
