This Residential Services Specialist 2-3 WAE position is located at Central Louisiana Supports and Services Center in Alexandria, LA.
Job duties entail multiple aspects of DIRECT CARE. In addition to teaching and training on activities of daily living, the applicant must be willing to engage in and provide hands-on assistance for toileting (which includes changing soiled diapers and clothing), dressing, grooming, bathing, feeding, oral hygiene, recreation, and reinforcement of active treatment objectives.
**This is a Classified WAE appointment. A classified WAE appointment is a temporary appointment of an employee to fill a position in the classified service for a limited period of time and hours in order to address filling the position in a regular manner or to address an emergency or work overload situation. The classified WAE position cannot exceed 1245 hours during a twelve (12) month period.**
Classified When Actually Employed (WAE) Appointment
Pay range: When an appointing authority makes a classified WAE appointment, he may set the pay of the employee at any rate in the range.
Residential Services Specialist 2-3 WAE shall be compensated shift differential rates for actual hours worked.
Shifts for this location could be as follows:
1st Shift: 6:00am - 2:30pm
2nd Shift: 2:00pm - 10:30pm
3rd Shift: 10:00pm - 6:30am

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
One year of experience in providing care, guidance or training to individuals with developmental disabilities, physical disabilities or chemical dependency; or psychiatric patient care.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
College training with at least six semester hours per year in one or a combination of education, psychology, counseling, social work, sociology, child guidance or nursing will substitute for the required experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for one year of experience.
Training as Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant at a recognized technical school will substitute on a month for month basis for a maximum of six months of the required experience.
NOTE:
Applicants may be required to satisfactorily complete a course of medication administration.
Completion of an in-service training program administered by the department may be required.
NOTE:
Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.

Job Distinctions:
Differs from Residential Services Specialist 1 by the presence of journeyman level of duties.
Differs from Residential Services Specialist 3 by the absence of serving as lead-worker and advanced journeyman level duties.
Examples of Work
Trains and guides individuals in routine and elementary self-help skills such as good hygiene, good housekeeping, money management, and other activities providing personal and social growth.
Assists individuals with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, and oral hygiene. Assistance may include lifting up to 50 lbs.
Participates in development and implementation of the Active Treatment and Nutritional/Behavior/Physical Support Plans.
May prevent or stop disturbances through approved facility policies and procedures.
Trains individuals in maintaining living area standards by performing and modeling simple custodial tasks such as making beds, cleaning floors, and putting clothes away.
Accompanies and transports individuals to activities such as the dining hall, church services, recreation areas, doctor's offices, education field trips, work, and shopping.
Observes behavior and health of individuals and reports sudden or unusual changes to higher authority.
Reports accidents/incidents and suspected cases of abuse or neglect of individuals to higher authority.
May instruct individuals involved in work activities such as cutting grass, loading materials, or other simple custodial tasks.
Cleans living area and washes, dries, and folds residents clothing and linens.
Reports needed repairs and maintenance in living area.
Maintains records for review of higher authority on progress of training and development of individual.
