The position oversees the City's residential solid waste, hazardous waste, composting, bulk waste, and recycling programs, ensuring compliance with regulations. Responsibilities include field inspections, addressing customer concerns, resolving complaints, coordinating with waste services, and educating the public on waste management. The specialist conducts trash and recycle cart verification, prepares the annual Trash and Recycling Guidelines, monitors the household hazardous waste program, and supports Keep Allen Beautiful activities. Additional duties include documenting inspections, assisting customers, reviewing residential site plans, and providing administrative support. The position has no supervisory responsibilities. - Conducts field inspections of residential solid waste set-outs for compliance, resolves unsafe conditions, and monitors for Code Compliance follow-up. Identifies non-compliant residents and ensures issues are corrected.
- Provides residents with educational materials about waste issues and responds promptly, often in person, to inquiries, complaints, or requests for service.
- Oversees the residential hazardous waste collection program and the City's HHW Reuse Center.
- Updates and distributes the annual City Trash and Recycling Guidelines.
- Plans and conducts public education and outreach programs for individuals, homeowner associations, and social groups.
- Investigate ordinance violations and coordinate with code compliance for warnings or fines for continued noncompliance.
- Conducts semi-annual cart counts in cooperation with the franchised waste provider.
- Supports Keep Allen Beautiful Board meetings and activities.
Job Requirements Education and Experience: A bachelor's degree or equivalent and three (3) years of experience in Solid Waste or Code Enforcement.Special Requirements:
- Must possess a valid Texas Class C driver's license.
- Ability to obtain Hazardous Waste and Emergency Response Standard (HAZWOPER) Training and certification within six (6) months of hire.
