BASIC FUNCTIONS:The Resource Sharing Librarian, under the general direction of the Head, Access Services, will manage and coordinate Interlibrary and Consortium Loan Services for the Howard University Libraries for materials owned by other libraries and requests from domestic and international libraries for Howard University.This position also supports the University Libraries' management system: Ex Libris ALMA, and its discovery layer, Ex Libris Primo, and resource sharing management system, Atlas ILLiad. Consults with the University Enterprise Systems (ETS) to resolve library management systems concerns as necessary. SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY:May also be responsible for acting in a lead capacity over other positions in Access Services that perform work or related technical tasks.NATURE AND SCOPE:Internal contacts include students, staff, faculty, and administrators. External contacts include vendors, local firms, agencies and external libraries, consortium students, visiting scholars, and the public.PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Creates, maintains, and implements policies and procedural documentation related to resource sharing; regularly reviews the policies, and recommends revisions; communicates with CLS coordinators in the WRLC and serves on the appropriate library and consortium committees; and communicates with patrons regarding ILL/ CLS requests.
  • Collects appropriate statistical data and incorporates the data into monthly and annual reports of Access Services activities.
  • Develops training materials and conducts ongoing training for department staff and student workers performing resource sharing work.
  • Serves as a system administrator for the Libraries' integrated library systems and collaborates with other Library Units/Divisions in the development of policies, planning, and implementing of system configurations; supports Access Services Department's technology.
  • Assist in the management of mediated on-demand document delivery services
  • Works in tandem with ETS when necessary to identify and resolve LMS issues.
  • Responsible for assisting patrons with a wide range of transactions and inquiries related to the circulation of materials, patron accounts, library policies, reference, and access, directional, and of general variety in a high-paced, multi-tasked physical and virtual environment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
CORE COMPETENCIES:
  • Experience managing a library management system used for search, discovery, access, and delivery services.
  • Experience working with library databases and HTML; experience with programming languages such as JavaScript and Python considered a plus.
  • Demonstrated well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills related to computers, especially PCs and current technologies.
  • Record of effective engagement with faculty and other library users in
  • development of technology- informed workflow systems. ability to work
  • in team environment and on a self-directed basis.
  • Experience with workflow analysis and/or project management.
  • Knowledge of best practices and current and emerging trends in academic library services and resource sharing management services.
  • Knowledge of issues relating to digitization and resource sharing in the academic environment.
  • User-centered service philosophy; ability to be innovative and flexible; ability to deal tactfully and effectively with a diverse clientele.
  • Ability to work collegially as a team member in a changing environment.
  • Ability to perform strenuous physical work requiring sitting or standing for extended periods of time, walking, kneeling, stooping, bending, pushing and pulling heavy book carts, reaching and lifting. Ability to lift and carry items up to 20 lbs. Library collections are subject to dust, mold, and other airborne particles with which this position will come in contact.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of different user communities' needs and user search behavior in academic library settings and the arena of information seeking end users.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an accredited institution.Compliance Salary Range DisclosureExpected Salary Range: $65,454 - $72,000
