Bargaining Unit: UUP Job Summary: The Department of Respiratory Therapy at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking an hourly/per-diem Respiratory Therapist II. The successful candidate will:
- Provide respiratory care for patients under the direction of a physician.
- Make rounds to determine if patient is receiving proper respiratory care.
- Conduct ventilator management.
- Draw and analyze blood for arterial blood gases.
- Record the respiratory status of all patients.
- Assist physicians in ventilating patients who can not sustain their own respiratory function during cardio-respiratory arrests.
- Respond to all cardiac arrests and rapid response calls (may include L&D for high risk deliveries).
- Provide sputum induction.
- Administer Nitric Oxide Therapy.
- Explain the use of respiratory care devices to patients and/or family members and assist in the use thereof.
- Make entries in patient's electronic medical record.
- Assist with education of other disciplines such as nursing and house staff.
- Clean and decontaminate equipment once removed from patient use.
- Provide chest physio-therapy and assist in pulmonary lavage/suctioning.
- Will provide coverage as needed to all age groups and patient care areas (dependent on experience and certifications).
Required Qualifications:
- Associate of Applied Science in Respiratory Therapy or graduate of a 2-year AMA approved Respiratory Therapy program.
- Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT).
- New York State Respiratory Therapist Licensure.
- BLS (to be obtained within 1-year of employment).
- NRP required to work NICU.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) preferred.
