The Department of Respiratory Therapy at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking an hourly/per-diem Respiratory Therapist II. The successful candidate will: * Provide respiratory care for patients under the direction of a physician.* Make rounds to determine if patient is receiving proper respiratory care.* Conduct ventilator management.* Draw and analyze blood for arterial blood gases.* Record the respiratory status of all patients.* Assist physicians in ventilating patients who can not sustain their own respiratory function during cardio-respiratory arrests.* Respond to all cardiac arrests and rapid response calls (may include L&D for high risk deliveries).* Provide sputum induction.* Administer Nitric Oxide Therapy.* Explain the use of respiratory care devices to patients and/or family members and assist in the use thereof.* Make entries in patient's electronic medical record.* Assist with education of other disciplines such as nursing and house staff.* Clean and decontaminate equipment once removed from patient use.* Provide chest physio-therapy and assist in pulmonary lavage/suctioning.* Will provide coverage as needed to all age groups and patient care areas (dependent on experience and certifications). Required Qualifications: * Associate of Applied Science in Respiratory Therapy or graduate of a 2-year AMA approved Respiratory Therapy program.* Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT).* New York State Respiratory Therapist Licensure.* BLS (to be obtained within 1-year of employment).* NRP required to work NICU. Preferred Qualifications: * Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) preferred.
