Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager or designee and upon request of the physician, performs therapeutic procedures, set up, operates and maintains various types of respiratory care equipment to be utilized in the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory disease and/or illness. The respiratory care practitioner is competent at delivering patient care for neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.Job Results & Essential FunctionProfessional Proficiency DemonstratedMaintains professional competencies.Fulfills job requirements for a professional licensed role within the respective department.Explains the purpose and procedure of treatments, tests, and equipment to the patient.Performs physician-prescribed treatments through the operation of various oxygen and aerosol delivery devices in order to administer humidity and prescribed vapors and gases to the respiratory system of a patient.Performs arterial puncture and analysis.Assist RN with the care of patients.Ability to perform pulmonary function studies.Performs EKGs.Assist in the transport of critically ill patients to other healthcare facilities as needed.Provides patient education.Education & ExperienceGraduate of A.A.S in respiratory care.Must have one year of experience in acute care.Licenses and/or CertificationsMust be an RRT or CRT (If CRT must obtain RRT within 1 year of employment).Must also have a New York state licensure.Must have CPR, ACLS, PALS, and NRP certificationsPhysical DemandsAbility to move or transfer patients. Should have a full range of body motion to successfully perform all essential functions on the job, meaning you'll have to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and reach frequently during an 8 + hour shift. Ability to remain standing for long periods of time.
