OPPORTUNITY SUMMARYThe Tavern Dining Room Assistants assists the Tavern Assistant Restaurant Manager and Tavern Lead server in the execution of all service aspects of the Tavern @ American Bounty while maintaining CIA service standards and providing professional, courteous, and timely customer service to our patrons. The Tavern Dining Room Assistant will expand their knowledge in multiple restaurant tasks, such as reservation system, guest relations, professional communication and steps of service in a fast-paced environment.SHIFTS
  • Between Monday - Saturday, 9am to 6pm
ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assists guests by anticipating their needs while they are in the restaurant or attending any other program that we are offering at that time.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of workstations.
  • Completes opening and closing side work as assigned with the goal of contributing to an organized, well-prepared work environment.
  • Seeks and develops a strong food and beverage knowledge base.
  • Maintains proper service standards during the dining experience.
  • Communicates all pertinent information to the Tavern staff and Maitre d'Instructors as necessary.
  • Demonstrate standards of proper food safety and sanitation.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all faculty, staff, student and guest information.
  • Assists at maintaining inventories of paper goods, sanitation supplies and linens.
  • Assists students, and staff with the operation of point of sale (POS) systems.
  • Assists students, and staff with dining room/caf/pantry operation.
  • Assists students, and staff with management of equipment and supplies.
  • Assists other students as needed.
  • Works cohesively with other department members as part of a team.
  • All other duties as assigned.
PREREQUISITES
  • Completed HOSP-350: Hospitality, Service, and Restaurant Management, OR, have minimum six months of front of house experience in a casual/formal restaurant.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • One year experience in Front of House dining room service.
  • Knowledge of OpenTable Reservation System.
  • Knowledge of MICROS POS System.
SKILL DEVELOPMENT AND LEARNING OUTCOMES OF ASSIGNMENT
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and adhering to standards of operational excellence, safety, efficiency and educational goals set by the CIA.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with guests, students, and faculty/staff.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills; ability to be adaptable, dependable and handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and conceptual skills.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule including overtime on days, nights and weekends.
  • Ability to frequently lift and carry 30 lbs.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry 50 lbs. with assistance.
  • Ability to stand and work for extended periods of time during customary service hours.
Successful applicant must be able to perform all related functions of the assignment which may include working nights and weekends, ability to bend reach and stand for long periods of time, lifting and carrying of items up to fifty (50) pounds, and the ability to withstand high ambient temperatures.
