Job Description:

Job OverviewThe Training Director for Ugly Dumpling Restaurant Group is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing the overall training strategy for the entire organization. This role ensures that all team members across multiple locations, including both front-of-house (FOH) and back-of-house (BOH), are effectively trained to uphold brand standards, operational excellence, and exceptional guest service. The Training Director plays a key role in supporting the growth and expansion of the brand, particularly by overseeing new restaurant openings (NROs) and ongoing development initiatives for employees at all levels.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive training programs for FOH and BOH staff that align with Ugly Dumpling's operational goals and service standards.
  • Lead the creation and continuous improvement of training materials, including manuals, workshops, e-learning modules, and operational guides.
  • Develop specialized training for different levels of staff, from hourly employees to restaurant managers and regional leaders.
  • Collaborate with department heads (Operations, HR, Marketing) to ensure training programs support business objectives, including guest satisfaction, food safety, and brand consistency.
  • Oversee and execute all training-related aspects of new restaurant openings, ensuring operational readiness and consistency in training delivery.
  • Work closely with NRO teams to manage pre-opening training schedules, staffing plans, and on-site support.
  • Ensure all new employees are fully trained in line with company standards before the restaurant opening day.
  • Lead and support the training team in scaling operations during high-growth periods.
  • Manage and mentor the training and development team, ensuring alignment with company culture and values.
  • Provide ongoing leadership development programs for restaurant managers and other key leaders to foster professional growth and career advancement.
  • Conduct performance evaluations for training staff and implement development plans to continuously improve the team's capabilities.
  • Act as a key liaison with operations leadership to align training initiatives with the group's long-term goals.
  • Ensure training programs meet industry standards and comply with health and safety regulations, labor laws, and company policies.
  • Regularly assess restaurant operations to identify gaps in performance or compliance and implement targeted training solutions to address these areas.
  • Track and report on training effectiveness, including metrics such as employee retention, customer satisfaction, and operational performance.
  • Develop and oversee onboarding programs for new hires, ensuring a smooth transition into the company and understanding of the Ugly Dumpling brand.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in training to keep Ugly Dumpling at the forefront of restaurant operations.
  • Identify opportunities for improving training efficiency through digital tools, technology, and innovative approaches to learning.
  • Lead cross-functional projects that enhance the guest experience, operational efficiency, and staff engagement through training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience

  • 7+ years of experience in training and development, preferably within the restaurant or hospitality industry.
  • Proven experience managing large-scale training programs, including new restaurant openings, FOH/BOH operations, and leadership development.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and leadership skills, with a demonstrated ability to engage and influence at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of training technologies, learning management systems (LMS), and digital learning platforms.
  • Willingness to travel frequently to various restaurant locations to provide on-site training and support.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or related field (preferred).

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $100,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year

Experience:

  • LMS: 1 year (Required)
  • Restaurant management/training: 5 years (Required)

Willingness to travel:

  • 50% (Required)
