Salary: $30,948.08 Annually Location : Edwardsville, IL Job Type: Full Time Job Number: 00383 Division: Morris Univ Ctr Department: MUC Bookstore Opening Date: 09/19/2024 Closing Date: 10/7/2024 11:59 PM Central FLSA: Non-Exempt Description The Retail Sales Associate plays a pivotal role in the daily operations of the Cougar Store, focusing on cashiering, customer service, and maintaining the sales floor's appearance. This position requires proficiency in cashiering duties, providing excellent customer service, and overseeing store operations during evening hours. The role includes training student cashiers, inventory management, answering inquiries, and ensuring a welcoming environment for all customers. Key Responsibilities:
  • Cashiering and Customer Service:
    • Operate the PrismRBS POS system for transactions, including cash handling, credit card processing (PCI-compliant), and department charges.
    • Provide exceptional customer service by greeting guests, answering questions, and assisting with product location and selection.
    • Maintain high standards of customer service to enhance guest satisfaction and reduce shrinkage.
  • Sales Floor Maintenance:
    • Ensure the sales floor is well-merchandised, organized, and visually appealing to customers.
    • Keep fixtures and displays well-maintained and tidy to optimize the shopping experience.
    • Monitor and report low stock issues to upper management to facilitate timely replenishment.
  • Student Cashier Training and Supervision:
    • Instruct and supervise student cashiers on daily operations and customer service standards.
    • Ensure student cashiers adhere to store policies and procedures for efficient operation during peak hours.
  • Store Operations Oversight:
    • Take responsibility for the Cougar Store after 4:30 PM, including student supervision of staff and ensuring smooth operation until closing.
    • Handle phone inquiries, resolve customer issues, and maintain a professional and welcoming atmosphere.
  • Work Schedule: This position is full-time, requiring 37.5 hours per week. The standard work week runs from Monday to Friday, with working hours from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional work on nights and weekends may be necessary. Advanced notice will always be given. Reliable transportation is critical for the success of this role.Typical QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Cashier experience and basic knowledge of cash handling procedures
    • Exceptional customer service skills
    • Basic knowledge of retail business operations
    • Knowledge of Cougar Store policies & procedures
    • Ability to handle stress and deal quickly and effectively with problems as they occur
    • Critical thinking skills required - must have the ability to troubleshoot
    • Knowledge of computer databases, inventory control systems & point of sale systems.
    • Skilled use of Microsoft Office, e-mail and web research.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Ability to multi-task and stay calm under pressure.
    • Basic office skills such as typing, data entry, cash handling, and the operation of common office equipment (phone, fax, copier, PC, etc.) are required.
    • Should be friendly and dependable.
