DescriptionJOB DESCRIPTION POSITION / TITLE: Retherm/Pack-Out Operator RESPONSIBLE TO: Packing & Distribution Manager STATUS: Regular, Full-Time, Non-Exempt PROGRAM ADDRESS: 2230 Jerrold Ave, San Francisco CA 94124 ABOUT MOWSF: Meals on Wheels San Francisco works to help seniors live independently with dignity, in their own homes, for as long as it is safely possible. The Kitchen Production team ensures safe and wholesome meals are produced daily and packaged in accordance to the highest standards to maintain freshness and quality from our kitchen to our clients' homes. POSITION SUMMARY: As a team member of a high-volume production kitchen, the Retherm/Pack-Out Operator must have the ability and experience to follow developed menus and recipes as assigned. With a focus on food safety and quality control, the position fulfills a production standard of daily meals by coordinating, staging, and assembling components as required. The Operator will have a high attention to detail and maintain high standards for quality, cleanliness, presentation, food safety, sanitation and efficiency. This position requires working until all meals are accurately and properly completed and stored. Overtime hours and holidays may be required in order to successfully fill or return kitchen orders to storage as needed. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the supervision of the Packing & Distribution Manager, and in accordance with the provisions of the MOWSF Employee Handbook, the Retherm/Pack-Out Operator will:
- Following the menu production schedule, coordinates and stages ingredients, portioning food and assembling high volume and high-quality meals in a timely manner. Follows heating and storage standards, product specifications, policies and procedures for all menu items and ingredients.
- Stocks workstation with all necessary components for production. Properly store food items at appropriate temperatures. Any cooler or freezer temperature discrepancies immediately report to management
- Assembles meals on appropriate racks and heats to specified temperature.
- Ensures packing-out of food for transport is completed with great attention to detail of food presentation, meal quality and accurate labeling of ingredients, food description and use-by date.
- Checks for freshness of food and discards spoiled, adulterated or out-of-date items. Maintain first-in-first-out (FIFO) on inventories of food and ingredients.
- Meets daily production deadline to accurately and properly heat and pack meals according to schedule.
- Ensures meal components are assembled and stored in proper refrigeration or freezer storage as needed, meeting or exceeding compliance standards with all kitchen Health and Safety regulations.
- Closely observes kitchen cleanliness and safety standards, ensuring the food prep areas, counters, equipment, and floors are free of food and debris. Follows cleaning and sanitation standards at the beginning of the shift, before leaving workstation for breaks and at end of shift.
- Maintains accurate food inventories, FIFO inventories of food and ingredients. Rotates stock items as per established procedures. Restocks kitchen for subsequent shifts. Prepares for the following days production.
- Labels and dates all products when stored.
- Attends regular meetings with all production staff.
- Communicates with staff and management in a positive and productive manner.
- This position requires working in Cold Storage and Freezer, and the use of cooking equipment.
- Collaborates with the Chef and Cooks to prepare scheduled production. Prepares for the following days' production.
- Other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Able to read, write and communicate effectively, as it relates to the job and to the safety regulations.
- Some kitchen experience preferred. (High volume production preferred)
- Demonstrate strong understanding of kitchen systems, operations, procedures and policies.
- Must be innovative and have the ability to make suggestions for changes to the operation as needed to further improve the work environment and unit performance.
- CA Food Handler's Certification required within 30 days of hire
Employment offer is contingent upon successfully passing a background check and a pre-employment physical. SALARY / HOURS/BENEFITS: The position is non-exempt (hourly) and is scheduled to work a 40 hour work week . Starting pay is $20.25/hour. Paid vacation and sick time are offered and stated in the personnel manual. Health and dental insurance is paid by employer.
