Attention future college graduates! The Department of Revenue's Audit Division is now hiring several Revenue Auditor 2's (in-training) in our Bellingham, Bothell, Kent, Seattle, Tumwater and Yakima offices. The successful candidates will be hired as a Revenue Auditor 1 (in-training level is at Revenue Auditor 1).

The salary listed for this position does not include the 5% premium pay for positions based in King County.

As a Revenue Auditor 2 In-training (In-training level is at Revenue Auditor 1): For those hired in-training, you will complete a two-year training plan that includes three weeks of new auditor training classes designed to give you a foundation of the knowledge you will need to be successful. You will participate in training audits with senior auditors who will teach you auditing standards, processes, and techniques. They will show you how to conduct audits and document your findings and provide support as you begin to independently conduct audits. You will also get involved in team audits to enhance your ability to conduct a broad range of audits at all levels of size and complexity. Once you have acquired the field experience and demonstrated your knowledge, you will advance to the Revenue Auditor 2 level.

Our Revenue Auditors excel in a regulatory environment where they have both the responsibility and authority to address issues of tax compliance. They enjoy knowing what they do is vital to ensuring the tax dollars critical to funding our state's budget are collected, funding key programs and services throughout the State of Washington.

This is a diverse role where you work independently, traveling as needed and receiving per diem reimbursement for your expenses. You are also part of a collaborative team where you receive training, share ideas and information, and ensure consistent interpretation and application of law. You may also conduct team audits to manage large, complex audits and ensure you are exposed to a wide variety of businesses including manufacturers, financial institutions, contractors, health care providers, department store chains, technology, telecommunications, airlines, transportation, and petroleum companies.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduate by June 2025 with a bachelor's degree with major study in business, accounting, public administration, or closely allied field
  • OR
  • Three years of professional experience in accounting, auditing, bookkeeping, banking, compliance, or tax administration.
  • Graduates of any scenario above will be considered.
