JOB DESCRIPTION:

Reporting to the Head of Business and Product Risk, the Wholesale Read Across Risk & Controls lead is responsible for supporting the read across processes for the Commercial and Global Banking businesses. This role will be part of the Wholesale Business Risk Team.

The primary purposes of the role are to perform read across assessments for the Wholesale Business, including Global Banking and Commercial Banking. This role requires a deep understanding of the banking industry, particularly in the Commercial Banking, Global Banking or Investment Banking areas. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all identified issues are reviewed for applicability to the US Wholesale businesses, and where gaps are identified, remediated.

Responsibilities:

1. The role is responsible for partnering and communicating with, across Wholesale Business Risk, Sr. Management, the Global Banking Business and the Commercial Banking business to ensure any material issues identified internally or externally are formally read across for applicability against the US businesses.

2. Obtain sufficient information from impacted group(s) when potential significant deficiencies or material weaknesses or noncompliance are identified to ensure appropriate investigative groups are engaged; ensure remedial activities are appropriately documented to.

3. Develop and implement strategies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the bank's read across processes.

4. Ensure that all activities are conducted in accordance with the bank's policies and procedures, as well as applicable laws and regulations.

5. Monitor the performance of any gaps identified as part of the read across process and make recommendations for improvements as necessary.

6. Stay up-to-date with industry trends and developments in order to ensure proactive risk mitigation.

Major Challenges

Understanding complex business relationships and activities.

Working across countries in a matrixed environment across Global Banking, Commercial Banking and the various functions

Detailed understanding of the business lines, products and operational processes supporting them

Understanding and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements

QUALIFICATION DETAILS:

Can you give me a quick overview of what your team does and why you re looking to bring on a contractor?

This is a backfill for a person was supporting short term. There is a regulatory program that requires that this line of business conducts more robust read across activities. If there is ever an audit or review that is high-risk, this team gets that report and then decides if the issue is something the US team also needs to review. The analysis is for commercial and global banking, and the entire wholesale umbrella. The role is labor intensive, and this person will need to be able to work with stakeholders. This person needs to know at least one of: GPS, GTS, CMB or Global banking very well, have good writing skills and be able to work with others as there is a lot of collaboration between teams. This person needs to be proactive and not reactive. They need to know how the business functions and works together. Example, if there is a retail issue on credit cards in Hong Kong this team needs to know if this affects their teams and who to go to for that issue.

Experience with Global payment services and how the banking world works. This person will be a point of contact for this team to take any issue identified within the bank and apply it to the businesses in the US. Needs to be able to write assessment as to why it is a concern and give suggestions and ways to mitigate or identify why it is not a risk and provide justification as to why.

Someone with at least 3 years of experience in banking, prior experience would be a plus. Foundational level of products and how services work within the bank will help someone get moving quicker in the role.

Someone with operational risk background or assurance background may be transferable skills that can be used in this role.

Systems are mostly proprietary.

What is the timeline, in terms of start and end date? Is there any chance for extension or conversion later on?

Start asap, potential for extension and perm placement for the right person at the right time.

Does your team work standard core hours or does that vary?

8am to 5pm Monday - Friday

Can you tell me about the physical work environment where the person will sit? Will they be assigned a desk or set up as remote?

Candidate can work at any bank location in a hybrid capacity working onsite 3 days and remote 2 days

Do you need someone with a particular degree or certification?

Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or a related field. A Master's degree or MBA would be an advantage.
