Job Summary: The Registered Nurse assesses, plans, directs, implements, and assists to provide quality patient care for assigned patients. Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities:
Plans, assesses, directs, implements and provides quality patient care for assigned patients to include modifying nursing care, medication administration and discharge planning. Provides education directed towards individualized patient needs utilizing the nursing process in coordination with policies and procedures. Monitors changes in patient condition to include recording and reporting symptoms, assessing vital signs and intervening when appropriate. Performs complete data collection from patient presenting complaints and pertinent history. Collaborates with patients to identify treatment plan goals, and discharges patients as appropriate with a written discharge plan. Encourages family participation as appropriate for age and situation. Delivers nursing care to patients including assessment and planning of education directed towards identified knowledge deficits, treatment, pain management, and discharge utilizing the nursing process. Documents accurately in medical records, on forms, and in the computer entering appropriate orders, patient charges, and or other information, meeting standards, policy, and procedures. Delivers quality care by using multi-disciplinary team strategies and minimizing the risk of infection, harm, or injury. Maintains accurate detailed reports and records and directs care with regard to age and developmental stage, presenting complaint, and pertinent history. Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, departments, staff, patients, and visitors. Anticipates deteriorating life sign patterns or equipment malfunctions and takes appropriate action. Modifies patient treatment plans as indicated by patients' responses and conditions. Collaborates with patient care team members on patient care plan, incorporating consistent use of hand-off communication. Conducts and coordinates patient care and patient transfers in accordance with EMTALA regulations, as applicable. Required Qualifications: - Nursing Diploma from an Accredited Diploma Program or Associate or higher Degree in Nursing from an accredited school of professional nursing.
- Current licensure by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas or proof of reciprocity of licensure between the State of Texas and another state within 90 days.
- Current JPS recognized Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and must be maintained throughout employment.
- Completes Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within 90 days of hire date and maintains credentialing throughout employment.
- Completes Pediatric Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) within 90 days of hire date and maintains credentialing throughout employment for Urgent Care Center and Emergency Department.
- Must successfully complete, pass, and maintain all applicable and requisite training as established by each department in accordance with the JPS Clinical Job Specific Competency Validation Checklist. Completes the requisite certification and courses within the required timeframes, to include but not limited to:
- Successful completion of unit-specific competency-based orientation program within 90 days of employment, based on home unit/employee specific orientation plan.
- Approved Education and Training in Non-Violent Crisis De-escalation must be obtained within 90 days of hire date and maintained throughout employment for Urgent Care Center and Emergency Service.
- EKG course within 90 days of employment and maintained throughout employment for Clinical Decision Unit and Emergency Service.
Preferred Qualifications: - Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited school of professional nursing.
- Certification in the area of nurse specialty.
