Position Overview: The RN Charge Nurse is a vital leadership role responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the unit while ensuring quality patient care and optimal outcomes. Collaborating with staff, leaders, and physicians, this role emphasizes clinical excellence, mentorship, and effective communication to foster a supportive and high-performing environment.Key Responsibilities:
  • Clinical and Staff Mentorship
    • Serve as a clinical and leadership mentor to new and existing staff.
    • Provide coaching and guidance to enhance clinical performance and professional growth.
  • Scheduling and Staffing Oversight
    • Assist in preparing and managing unit schedules with input from management and schedulers.
    • Balance daily staffing plans to meet departmental needs and patient care demands.
    • Establish patient assignments for the nursing team to ensure fair workloads.
  • Team Engagement and Feedback
    • Participate in peer interviews to select unit staff.
    • Offer constructive feedback to department leadership on team performance and individual contributions.
  • Budget and Resource Management
    • Support budget and goal achievement by adhering to staffing plans and productivity goals.
    • Oversee material and supply management to minimize waste and optimize resource utilization.
  • Leadership and Communication
    • Act as a liaison, promoting effective communication between leadership, staff, and other departments.
    • Share the organization's vision, mission, and values while fostering a collaborative work environment.
    • Address and document staff performance issues proactively and judiciously.
  • Operational Throughput
    • Monitor and manage department throughput, ensuring timely completion of admissions, discharges, and transfers.
    • Oversee the progress of diagnostic studies and communicate effectively to enhance patient flow.
  • Process Improvement
    • Identify and document areas for intra- and inter-departmental process improvement.
    • Facilitate solutions that lead to improved patient care and operational efficiency.
  • Education and Compliance
    • Conduct or facilitate education on topics such as patient safety, quality, satisfaction, and process improvement.
    • Maintain awareness of and ensure department compliance with regulatory standards, including CMS and JCAHO.
    • Support adherence to policies, procedures, and patient rights.
  • Leadership Collaboration
    • Actively participate in surgery center leadership decisions.
    • Advocate for staff and department needs to maintain a high-performance culture.
  • Patient and Staff Satisfaction
    • Promote an atmosphere of teamwork, ensuring benchmarks for patient safety, efficiency, and satisfaction are met or exceeded.
  • Additional Responsibilities
    • Perform other related duties as assigned to support unit operations and the organization's goals.
  • Qualifications:Education and Experience
    • High school diploma or GED required.
    • Specialized education and training in nursing, with at least 5 years of experience in an operating room (OR) setting.
    Required Certifications and Licenses
    • Current RN License in the state of Arkansas.
    • BLS Certification (Basic Life Support).
    Preferred Certifications and Licenses
    • ACLS Certification (Advanced Cardiac Life Support).
    Skills and Abilities
    • Mastery of EMR (Electronic Medical Record) usage.
    • Proficiency in alphanumeric data entry, database management, and word processing/typing.
    • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to guide and mentor staff.
    • High level of organizational skills and attention to detail for managing patient care and operations.
    • Ability to foster a positive and collaborative work environment that prioritizes patient safety and staff satisfaction.
