Employment Type: Part timeShift: Rotating Shift Description: JOB SUMMARY The Clinical Nurse Reviewer's chief responsibility is to collect and submit reliable data on eligible cases as required for participation in the Anesthesiology Quality Improvement and Reporting Exchange, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan-funded Collaborative Quality Initiative (CQI). This is accomplished through high-quality clinical screening, data compilation, documentation, and entry into the ASPIRE database of all eligible cases for the hospital. The Clinical Nurse Reviewer also works closely with the physician champion and appropriate hospital leadership to identify opportunities for clinical quality improvement and other special projects as may be identified. JOB QUALIFICATIONS A. Education
  • BSN required
  • MSN/ NP/ CRNA preferred
B. Licensure
  • Licensed in Michigan as registered nurse
C. Training and Experience
  • Required - Minimum five (5) years clinical experience in perioperative nursing or experience in analyzing and interpreting process, clinical outcomes and costs of care.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Working knowledge of computer software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and web-based applications.
  • Clinical chart review and abstraction experience required
  • Database data entry and/or management experience preferred
D. Job Knowledge
  • Ability to interact with physicians, leadership, and all hospital associates in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Statistical knowledge preferred
  • Quality improvement or patient safety knowledge and experience preferred
PERFORMANCE DUTIES
  • Responsible for the identification of patients for inclusion in the program registry through the application of program inclusion/exclusion criteria.
  • Responsible for independently managing the case load and reporting data to ASPIRE according to established standards and deadlines. Data components will be obtained through the effective utilization of the hospital medical record system.
  • Demonstrates applicability of the methodology and the reliability of definitions utilized by reviewers within the program.
  • Responsible for identifying areas for streamlining and process improvement in the data collection process.
  • Demonstrates appropriate utilization of resources necessary to obtain valid, reliable data for entry into the program.
  • Establishes effective working relationships with members of the hospital community, especially staff in the Medicine, Nursing, Medical Records and the Information Systems Departments whose support is necessary for the management and success of the program.
  • Contacts patients and/or families via telephone and/or written communications post-discharge for the purpose of identifying possible clinical concerns.
  • Actively engages in ASPIRE activities and identifies opportunities to improve the quality of care in the inpatient setting by working with physicians, nurses, other clinicians, and administrators to develop strategies to improve performance.
  • Serves as an educational resource for the ASPIRE CQI for internal and external audiences by developing educational material and delivering presentations.
  • Maintains regular contact with the ASPIRE physician champion and other members of the team at the hospital.
  • Attends pertinent hospital committee meetings as appropriate.
ASPIRE Participation
  • Attends consortium-wide meetings and sub-group meetings as a representative of the hospital.
  • Prepares for and participates in site audits by the ASPIRE Coordinating Center, resolves data discrepancies, and responds to ASPIRE Coordinating Center requests in a timely fashion.
  • Participates in teleconferences with other ASPIRE Clinical Nurse Reviewers.
  • Attends national conferences pertaining to the program as requested.
