RN Coordinator- Cancer Center
UnityPoint Health- Fort Dodge
Shift: Monday-Friday 7am-3:30pm
This position has numerous responsibilities, including assessing the needs of all cancer patients; coordinating access to social workers and other oncology staff; and coordinating patient, staff and community education. Maintains oversite for compliance to the Commission on Cancer Standards.

Responsibilities:Demonstrates a level of understanding of oncology illnesses and treatment modalities.
Demonstrates interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with members of the interdisciplinary team, including physicians, as well as external customers, to achieve desired clinical service and financial outcomes.
Works independently without close supervision.
Builds awareness of Cancer Center Nurse Coordinator position with cancer care providers.
Advocates for the patient and Cancer Center program.
Participates in oncology community events.
Assists with certification for the TRMC Breast Center.
Assists with regulatory compliance such as DNV, American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer, HIPAA, etc.
Organizes multi-disciplinary cancer conferences. Obtains and reviews reports from providers, pathology and radiology for multi-disciplinary consultations and conferences. Coordinates and distributes case summaries to multi-disciplinary providers to facilitate case discussion and treatment planning.
Facilitates in multidisciplinary care conferences ensuring communication with primary physician, oncology specialists, surgical specialists, radiology, pathology
etc. Takes reports to conferences to facilitate proper communication about each presented patient. Documents discussion of evidence based national guidelines and clinical stage.
Works in collaboration with care team to develop and monitor clinical quality indicators that reflect the entire continuum of care. Develops action plan for indicators that fall below established benchmarks.
Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of department policies and procedures.
Develops and coordinates community education events. On an ongoing basis, assesses both individual and community educational needs through communication with various health care professionals, patient surveys and participant feedback.
Provide education, support, and coordination to assist patients securing appointments.
Provide patients culturally appropriate educational resources on cancer care.
Connect patients and families to resources and support services.
Promote communication between the patient and healthcare providers.
Coordinate services throughout the continuum of care.
Enhance the patients quality of life, sense of autonomy, and self-determination for managing his or her own health.
Adheres to all departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
Coordinate genetic referrals with the genetic risk assessment team.
Qualifications:Education:
Diploma or Associate Degree Nursing Required. BSN preferred.
Experience:
Broad nursing background preferred.
License(s)/Certification(s):
Current Registered Nurse licensure in Nurse the state of Iowa or applicable compact state. Must be licensed in state of residence. Basic Life Support.

Demonstrates general clinical knowledge and skills in oncology. Must Possess effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Able to solve problems and think creatively. Demonstrates a high level of integrity.
